Possible new (nursing) drinking game

Published

Somebody help me out here. I'm seeing a great new nursing party drinking game. Something like every time you see a post title with !!!!, or ADN/BSN, or any derivative of NETY you have to toss one back. Any additions to the theme...?

What's "NETY"?

You've been blessed if you don't know. It's the acronym for the ubiquitous complaint that "nurses eat their young"... Search the general nursing section if you're curious.

How about every complaint that just started "like a minute ago".

Luckily we don't have any of that here in the School Nurses forum. I love this place!

For me it would everything time I had this type of exchange:

Student: My ankle hurts. I twisted it at home on Saturday.

(It is now Tuesday, 20 minutes before the end of the school day. Student walked into the office normally, no signs of distress on ankle.)

Me: Oh? Do you parents know you injured your ankle.

Student: Yep.

Me: Do you do anything to treat the injury at home?

Student: Nope. It didn't hurt until just now. Can I have an ice pack?

OMG! Thanks for the laugh! I needed it so badly today! Why do I have to explain over and over again why the 5th grader with a concussion cannot "just play volleyball" at gym class? The teachers don't want to say no, they want me to be the bad guy!

My most heard line from students is "I need some ice..."

"I have been sneezing nonstop for 2 days, can you tell me why?" 20 minutes before final bell. Never once sneezed in the clinic or while waiting in the office. I'm taking a drink on that one!

Sneezing or coughing! "student has had nonstop cough all week", not a single cough in office AND I've seen him running around at recess with no problem.

How about parents' "so do I need to pick them up?"

Well they vomited all over their desk, so probably.

Not specifically for school nurses but:

"Need advise, is nursing right for me?"

"What books do I need for NU2044?"

"Taking NCLEX 14x, need prayers! Plz help!!"

"What are nursing interventions post-surgery for cholecystectomy?"

(We can't do your homework. What do you think? - no response from OP)

"New grad, can I quit my job after 1 week?"

"BSN to DNP, no experience"

"My Preceptor is a witch from hell, how do I sue for NETY?"

Anything regarding lice.

Posts with "Pre-nursing student, dreaming of being NICU NP/ED NP/CRNA but failed A&P show meee the way"

Or "New grad, need day shift only/very specific schedule/want to work hospital will not work nights/want weekends off"

Someone makes a rational, practical and pragmatic suggestion: "You were offered a great residency on nights in Ortho at a fantastic hospital in fun place to live? Sure, take it"

New Grad: I will accept ED/PEDS/ICU only do not bully me!

Me: *Blink*

Comes up with note from teacher at 2:15 (we dismiss at 2:25) "stomachache, headache, has been complaining ALL day."

Student has 101 temp. Now I have to try to get a hold of parents at the end of the day. Pass the drinks guys.
