Please keep my high school students in your thoughts and prayers today, and in the coming days/weeks. One of our students committed suicide yesterday. She was not a student I had many (if any) dealings with but my heart is breaking for her, her family and friends, and her classmates. Such a sad, sad tragedy
Of course prayer is needed. As a faith community nurse I feel you are absolutely aware of the influence
such event has not only on this student's family but the peers as well. The awareness of such mental health disparity in the community has grown by leaps and bounds and a workshop for parents should be
something the school could arrange in management efforts to prevent such mishaps.
Thank you all so much for continuing to think of us. Quite honestly, the aftermath has been very subdued and dare I say, quiet. The kids are coping and her closest friends are doing "ok". Some of them have been back in to speak with our counselor and administrators and are getting through day-by-day. The kids held a candlelight vigil this weekend, and most are continuing their daily routine. The issue of bullying has been brought up on several different occasions and our administrators are dealing with that, but overall, our kids, teachers, and community are doing ok with a very sad situation.
