Poll for those who have already taken NCLEX..

Published

For those of us who have already taken boards, please answer a few questions that might help ease the minds of those who are still waiting to test or for results. I know reading as much as possible about other people's experience helped me feel a little bit better while I waited.

1. How many questions did you take on NCLEX?

2. What study materials did you use? Did you take a test review course?

3. Did your SON offer any testing (ERI, ATI, HESI)?

4. How long did you wait for results of the test, or are you still waiting?

5. What were your thoughts coming out of the test (total disbelief, certainty you had failed, confident you had passed)?

6. Was this your first attempt at NCLEX?

Good luck to those who are waiting and ++++ thoughts for those who are waiting on results!!

1. how many questions did you take on nclex?

75 questions

2. what study materials did you use? did you take a test review course?

i took the kaplan course, but didn't have the first question where i could use the strategies. none of mine were assessments vs implementations, abcs, etc. they were almost entirely knowledge-based.

3. did your son offer any testing (eri, ati, hesi)?

no

4. how long did you wait for results of the test, or are you still waiting?

i took the nclex on monday at 9:00 and found out today at 10:00 that i passed!!!!

5. what were your thoughts coming out of the test (total disbelief, certainty you had failed, confident you had passed)?

i was in shock. i had five questions about meds i'd never heard of. three or four "check all that apply"...lots of prioritizing care, delegation, infection control. it was as if someone stood over my shoulder while i studied and made up the test from everything i *didn't* study. when my husband picked me up from the test center i told him to find a bar that was open..failing that i needed a huge banana split!!

6. was this your first attempt at nclex?

yes...and thank god, it's my last!! whew!!

1. How many questions did you take on NCLEX? 75 in 35 minutes! No drug calc, a few meds, a few labs, SIX multiples (these are my weakness, and I knew going in I needed to be strong elsewhere 'cause I am terrible at those), almost all were...who do you see/call first, you do what first, who goes in what room, you delegate what to LPN, you see LPN/NA doing X and what is wrong????

2. What study materials did you use? Did you take a test review course? My work paid for Kaplan...the whole $500:) I did ALL of the Qbank questions, the sample tests and the seven prep exams. Exams 5,6,7 are JUST like the NCLEX. I think I even had a few of the same ?'s. I also read the book and looked up stuff I had no idea or never heard about AND a few I looked up were on my exam:)

3. Did your SON offer any testing (ERI, ATI, HESI)? I took the HESI PN and the ATI RN. I did great on those BUT they are NOTHING like the NCLEX. Kaplan is the NCLEX. Saunders is a great study tool for those but if you want to breeze through the NCLEX make Kaplan your best friend!

4. How long did you wait for results of the test, or are you still waiting? 48hrs. Done. Done. Done. Let me say it again, DONE!

5. What were your thoughts coming out of the test (total disbelief, certainty you had failed, confident you had passed)? When I was on question 74, I thought to myself...okay, just one more. I KNEW I passed right away. It was easy. If I hadn't done KAPLAN I would have had more questions and wanted to cry on the spot. Kaplan was my test. I couldn't tell you the difference between Kaplan and my exam. When I started the Kaplan I did terrible...58-65%. By the end of what felt like 1million questions I was getting 70-90%. I read ALL the rationals. It took me three weeks maybe 4+ hrs/day.

6. Was this your first attempt at NCLEX? Yes

I "trained" for this. On "game day" I was well hydrated, wore comfortable clothes, was the first there, ate a well balanced meal, I also stood and stretched while waiting. A few other girls saw me doing this and stood up/ stretched also:) I am guessing I looked goofy, but I was ready!!!!!! If my orifice had to be sitting for hours I was going to make sure my body was relaxed. I also made sure to get sun and exercise in the weeks before so my energy level would be prime.

Last thing, don't let people freak you out on this board. I avoided it 1 week before because I didn't want my mind cluttered. Relax, do KAPLAN and feel confident.

Good Luck:balloons:

Certain I'd failed, thought I got about 2 questions right. No calculations, no "label the diagram", several chose all that apply, no fill in the blank, lots of infection control/precautions and priority.

Couldn't believe I shut off at 75 cause when I got into the 70's I kept saying it will be ok if I take more that 75, it will be ok. Cause I felt like I needed more questions. Then when it did shut off at 75 I figured I passed but that little demon on my shoulder kept putting doubt into my mind.
