  1. My husband and I listen faithfully to Dave Ramsey who gives financial advise. If you go to daveramsey.com you will be able to find the radio station in your area. He is a wizard. We are on our way to being debt free except the house by December next year and are anticipating being millionares by the time we retire. We are both 33 years old, no children yet but trying.
  2. The cost of living in Maine can be expensive as compared to other places in the country. The housing market is going through the roof and renting isn't exactly cheap anymore. The Augusta area is a nice area. You are about 1 hour from Portland if you want to go shopping but close to downeast coast also if you want to go for the day to the coast. There are several small towns that are nice around Augusta. There are also several hospitals in the area that you could apply to-- Maine General Augusta Campus, Maine General Waterville campus, Inland, Togus, but also loads of homehealth and clinics. I guess it all depends on what you want to do for nursing.
  3. I actually know of 2 people who went to the same school, in the same class who have never passed the NCLEX. One has tried 6 times, the other a couple times but it has now been 7-8 years since they graduated. How sad....
  4. Are there programs for this online or do you have to actually attend a school in person. Forensics has always interested me but never thought about going to school for it. Any information you might have would be appreciated.
  5. As a new grad 2 years ago, I started out base pay $41,070.00 with 10% differential on top of base pay for eve/nights and 25% difference for weekend (sat/sun). In 2 years I have increased my pay by $7,500.00 in advancements.
  6. As a new grad I started out at $41,070.00 with 10% extra for eve/nights and 25% additional for weekend pay (sat/sund). In 2 years I have increased my pay by $7,500.00 with advancements.
  7. 1. How many questions did you take on NCLEX? 75 2. What study materials did you use? Did you take a test review course?I took the test immediately after graduation but did take a week long NCLEX review course but do not remember the name of it. Very helpful though. Basic review of EVERYTHING imaginable...... 3. Did your SON offer any testing (ERI, ATI, HESI)? HESI x2 4. How long did you wait for results of the test, or are you still waiting? I believe I got the results within 48 hours by checking online. I don't think I got my letter in the mail for about 2 weeks though. 5. What were your thoughts coming out of the test (total disbelief, certainty you had failed, confident you had passed)? I thought for sure I hadn't passed. I was finished in about 1/2 hour and it shut off in the minimum amt of questions. YIKES....but I passed. 6. Was this your first attempt at NCLEX? yes.
  8. I took the test 2 years ago and my stopped on 75 questions. I was done in 1/2 hour. I was so scared I didn't pass but I did and was so relieved. Don't let the number scare you. It analyzes how you are doing as you go.
  9. I only work out 3 days per week usually M/W/F but if I have something planned those days I will fill in other days. I only work 8 hours day though so that makes a big difference. I don't know that it is good for you to work out on the days you work 13 hour shifts though because your body is already tired and may not get the full benefit you would if you did your workout on your days off.
  10. How has your first month been on the new unit. I am sure you are doing fine. Just keep looking at strip after strip. I am also new in cardiology and at times feel incompetent because I am in a cardiology dept but am not comfortable with telemetry. I am ACLS certified but still not where I need to be comfort wise. I suppose that comes with time.
  11. To be honest with you, my husband wanted to get into the medical field but really did not want to do nursing so he chose Respiratory. He just graduated in MAY and already has a job starting at just about the same amout, if not more than new nurses do. You can also go for a certified RT which pays a little less then Registered Therapists. Probably wouldn't hurt to look into following an RT around for a day.

I am new to the website. Found it yesterday researching information online. I am a native but lived and practiced as an LPN in California for 5 years. Now working in Maine as an RN. Any nurses out there working in a cardiology clinic??
