Pearsonvue's Nclex-rn by Mary Ann Hogan

Published

Hi there friends and colleagues!

I would like to ask about Prentice hall's nclex-rn by Mary Ann Hogan (Pearsonvue), do you think this resource material would help me prepare for the nclex-rn exam? What about nclex-rn exam cram? Did anybody used this resources helped them? I just purchased these two books and they're very much overwhelming and very thick to read on. What can u suggest me to do inorder to go through these books? Are the questions in these books similar as the onces in the board exam? Just wondering. Thank you for your time to read on and answer my inquiries. Thank you.

:heartbeat"Hey was that an Sylvia Rayfield live review you took in Ohio@Cayuho and ClEVELAND University?

How was it?":heartbeat

Yup CSU's live review was from slyvia rayfield ($300). I have their nclex 101 book and nclex insanely made easy book and pharm booklet along with the review (3 day class). I only used it for mneumonics and practicing Q and A's from the book. I haven't used the cd'r with it yet. I didn't really had the chance to utilize the resources since my testing date was up two weeks ago (aug.13'09). Anyhow, I find the live review very inspiring and easy to go about with. It was good! They teach you how to break down the questions and stuff. I did liked it.

The other one was from Tri-C, I did it last year, it was a 3day live review course for $300. It was an nclex-rn review straight from their own school, basically from the corporate college corp. The speaker very good, she used to worked for kaplan. She gaved us handouts to read/brushed on with before the test. She was vey nice and accomodating. But when I took it last year, I was really flaky I didn't know what was going on it was my first time to walk in in a class with alot of students I didn't know and I didn't know what to expect with the nclex exam. But I've managed to learn a couple esp. with how to go about with the standardized exam. It wasn't really like nsg. content review it ws more of like a strategic kind. So other than that, I think I've learn from it a little bit on how to take the test, the test strategies, how to relax and what references to use sort of like that. But I didn't really know what to expect with the test ti'll I finally took it last year and failed then now again this month. Which totally sucks!!! But i don't think i'll be utilizing another live review nor another kaplan course online or other online courses coz i really don't have the money for it. Money don't grow on trees..and I dont have a job yet. Plus my inlaws and husband are all broke bec of me and i totally feel embarrassed. :banghead: I feel like a total dumb and dumber for not making it despite all the review courses and books. But I'm not giving I'll keep studying. This time I only used ncsbn and hogan and nclex cram so as suanders, kaplan strat book, and lacharity. That's it. hOpefully it'll help me coz i'm really exhausted and failing the test really had lowered my self-esteem.

anyone wants to share the hogan cd? thanks

Hi Pedsnurze! when you taking your exam? How are u going about ur study right now? care to share?

Not sure if I want to test around Dec or wait until after the year end and start fresh in Jan 2010.

If start studies Sept 1 that would give me 4 months and plenty time to send for my ATT.

I plan to use Saunders 4th ed. the way Suzannes plan had suggested along with La Charity since I got little to none of this in school. CDC for infection control and not sure who or what for pharmacology. Was thinking about live review but decided to hold off on that. Now that I'm answering you it will be JAN. I need that time for the 4 areas and questions to boot. Prize: RN Licensure

GOAL: RN Licensure with grace and humility

When: HIS DUE TIME

Good luck sweety! I'm sure you'll be able to get ready by then. Take your time, and understand what you read. I'll do the same thing. Keep a positive frame of mind. We'll reach our dreams of becoming an RN somebody soon. Keep believing, I know will be successful one day, I'm sure with God's grace and our hardwork.

"I focused my content study solely on what was in the Hurst Review. That might be disconcerting to some, as Hurst doesn't suggest you spend a lot of time memorizing drugs but instead focus on a core group of a dozen or so. (As it turns out, I had only two drug questions on the exam."

Hi freedom42 i just bought the hurst book you think it'll help me?

PM me!!

Hi ujones00 how r u? i just bought the hurst book, i haven't recieved it yet though. Do u think it'll help me prepare for the nclex?

I believe I wrote in an earlier post that I did not think the general Hurst book was worth buying. The workbook that accompanies the review itself is excellent, but the book that's available to the general public is poorly produced, in my opinion.

You seem to have a lot of review materials. One thing Hurst recommends is that you use no more than two sources to prepare for NCLEX (in Hurst's case, the Hurst workbook plus another source of your choice, such as Saunders or Prentice Hall, etc.). More than two sources could be overwhelming.

freedom42: i am doing the hurst review and i have hogan. do u think i should list to hurst and read it in hogan? i also answer questions on the topic i am on usually 100 questions a day or should i just listen to hurst? and do questions from hogan?

I decided to wait to do the 265-question exam from the cd today, since I test Monday and was advised not to study the day b4 the exam. I got a 73%...not sure how I feel about that. I'm about to go over the rationales and I guess just re-read over all the rationales I have written out over the past 2 months, and then maybe do some questions from one of my many sources. I'm so nervous and I feel myself wanting to cry lol

I used Mary Ann Hogan's CD reviewer starting August 4th to 25th and Lacharity's Reviewer for a week. I tallied my daily scores on a spare calendar based on Hogan's sample.

It helped me to track my progress. I like the CD though it has typo errors but the questions are harder than Saunders (for me). I did not study 2 days before the exam.

I am still waiting for my August 28th exam result. Tried the Pearsonvue trick, it would not let me register.

Hope I pass. . .

Good luck. . .
