Nope, just a business that got rid of a glitch!

Not a bully, but definitely a big meanie...

So I hear they killed the PVT. Seems unfair and mean. Target: desperate, impatient nursing grads. Showing off their power to make those grads pay a whole $8 to get their results like we had to do before the PVT.

So bullies?

And according to the article in the link below, the pass rate for the RN exam in 2001 was 69%. Which would suggest that the NCLEX of the past was more difficult than the current NCLEX.

Correlation, not causation.

I have no idea if the test is harder/easier than the days of yore. I know they've recently made the passing level higher, but that only compares itself to past days of computerized tests.

I'd think, by nature of the NCLEX's setup, it's made to be more difficult. The paper/pencil test was written and passed out, and taken as it. This computer system is made to gauge where we are, and then hit us with harder questions, so no matter how great you do, you'll be answering questions above your knowledge level.

So maybe overall, the difficulty is the same, but individually, they've created hell.

And I was thinking I must be stupid because I don't know from Godwin's Law.

google it. :woot:

I am not a new grad, but there is some validity to that assertion. I assure you there were no questions about bed-making and baths on the contemporary NCLEX.

i don't recall any questions about beds or baths 30 years ago...but after answering a mandatory 800 questions over 2 days, who can recall any of the questions.

but, there were plenty of hard ones.

There weren't on mine either, though people who didn't take the test seem to know what the content was.

Thank you for saying what I was thinking. The "bed making" comment says a great deal about the OP's attitude about experienced nurses and what they have to offer. I am starting to really understand why some NETY. I happen to be getting a little hungry myself.

But today's test is still only testing for minimum competency; they're not going to give you increasingly difficult questions that ask you for information only an experienced nurse would know.

One thing you have to say for the pencil and paper test: it was a test not just of knowledge, but stamina as well. You couldn't pass it answering 1/4 of the questions in an hour and a half. You answered every question, and you were there 8.5 hours for two days in a row.

You know, the next time I see snark directed at those of us with experience, I'm going to holler, "NEATO, NEATO, NEATO!" (Nurses EAt Their Old)

You know what really disappoints me?

The fact that NCLEX test-takers still can't get their scores. Twenty years later and I still want to know how many of those damnable 800 question I answered correctly.

I'm pretty sure I did well on the >insert sarcasm

That's funny, because I got my scores. I remember being amused that I did well in OB, which I hated, hated, hated, and didn't do as well in psych, which was one of my favorites.

What???? You got your scores?

I sat the NCLEX in 1992, and I still don't have my results. This is taking too long. I want a refund. :)

Seriously, though. I really would like to know my score. We were told no one would ever, ever be privvy to their exact score, because it could be used in a competitive manner for jobs. I'm sorry, but if I aced the test, I want the world to know, dammit.
