Overweight

Published

Ok guys, I have been a nurse since 2007 and since then I have gained about 50lbs.

Yes, I know I am not lying. It is very true. I used to fit in to xs scrubs. I work nights because it is convenient for my family and babysitting and my husbands schedule.

Tomorrow I start the dvd beachbody programs and hope for the best. It makes me sad that even at work people around me comment on how much weight I have gained. I can't fit into my clothes.

working nights I always find excuses to eat sweets or other bad things for weight.

I will eat the pizza. It's pretty clean in and of itself- semolina dough, fresh tomato sauce olive oil basil mozz and parm. They make it in front of you, including the dough, so it's "real" food. I just want to get a few weeks under my belt.

I have felt so much better and have been working out in some capacity every day.

I did 10 push ups today- REAL push ups, no knees. I'm not a push up girl, so this was huge.

It may be more mental than anything, but you know what? I'll take it.

I make weird noises when I do push ups.

Like a dying cow.

I allowed myself 2 cheat days in the week. So Saturday and Sunday were my cheat days. Which was the one thing I looked forward to all week. That was what helped me keep on track.

Notice I am using past tense. I moved in with my boyfriend and his family since I moved 2 and a half hours away to be closer to him and I can't move into my apartment until the 29th. It's been harder for me to stay on track here since his mom does all the cooking and its harder for me to count carbs when I don't cook it myself.

So on the 29th, back to healthy eating I go!

Is she cooking for reals? Or is it tater tots and stuff?

And easy slowly! It takes the brain at least 20 minutes to get the message from the stomach that food has arrived. That's a lot of time until we feel full if you think about it.

Today it was salmon.

But then she cooked fries and Mac and cheese.

It's that good ole southern cookin' round here. So canned every vegetable and carbs galore.

It does! Actually, I had a friend who did the same thing and I adopted that, but only if I was STRONGLY craving it to the point that no other food could satisfy. It helped me from eating a butt load of things before I ate what I was craving anyway.

There is an art to it though. You can't allow yourself to eat your cravings each and every time, or there's no point in a diet. Also, moderation is key.

The first few bites are to fill your stomach, the rest are just for the pure enjoyment of the taste of food. That saying is what prevents me from going overboard.

Absolutely. It has to be a REALLY strong craving for me to eat it. If it's ice cream, I'll only eat a small scoop. If it's pizza, I'll only eat one slice (where as before I'd eat at least 3). I also drink a huge glass of water before I eat as well. That helps too:)

I had half a piece of chocolate cake today.

No regrets.

They still make canned veggies? :bluecry1:

My advice: allow yourself the pizza. That was my saving grace when I was doing the diet/exercise thing. To know there was the occasional "cheat"

Eat 3-4 slices if you want! Just eat the toppings and leave the flour filled crust. Good protein and packed with flavor.

I gained a lot of weight working nights. Yeah I was eating like a pig, but I think being tired and off a normal schedule contributed to it. I thought i preferred nights until I changed to days and felt so much better.

Anyway, losing weight is tough. My best results were from simply eating less and moving a bit more.

Sure do.

The mom has HTN. She wonders why. Tried to tell her, but of course she doesn't listen.

I love it when she says "but I'm eating healthy" and I see her eat two sandwiches a day (4 pieces white bread total) and canned veggies.

I just smile and say "I know! I don't understand what you're doing wrong"

I don't think she understands sarcasm.

My hospital has an employees-only gym with tons of awesome free fitness classes. That all occur between 7a-8p. I'm flipped around most of the week: if they held classes at night, I'd look like Wonder Woman. I'm bored out of my mind stuck in my apartment from 9p to 6a when my schedule is flipped. *Grrrr*

Thought about doing some youtube Jazzercise in my apartment, but I think my upstairs, downstairs, and side-to-side neighbors would kill me.

If anybody wants to do some quiet, middle-of-the-night yoga or isotonic weight lifting with me, I'm right here.

I think flesh is on the menu tonight. I've been after some little ones on here.

Someone please hold me back.
