Ok guys, I have been a nurse since 2007 and since then I have gained about 50lbs.
Yes, I know I am not lying. It is very true. I used to fit in to xs scrubs. I work nights because it is convenient for my family and babysitting and my husbands schedule.
Tomorrow I start the dvd beachbody programs and hope for the best. It makes me sad that even at work people around me comment on how much weight I have gained. I can't fit into my clothes.
working nights I always find excuses to eat sweets or other bad things for weight.
Ok, guys, I have a food confession to make.
Earlier this week I worked 5 straight shifts. I was so stinking tired halfway through that I bought myself a two large pizza deal to sustain me for the rest of the week. The kind with the cheesey crust balls from Pizza Hut, no less.
I was on the phone with my mom when the guy came to the door. He must have heard me talking to her because he said, "I hope you both enjoy your meal!"
Nope. Just for me.
I recently lost 20lbs in one month. I did a 1200 calories diet, no flour, rice, bread. I also use artificial sugar and drank only water. No soda, juice, milk, only green juice that I made.
So basically I ate greens, grilled meat, chicken, and fish.
So far I have been able to maintain that weight lost. I continue to use artificial sugar and limited things with added sugar.
I have three beachbody programs and while there are good, I have never lost so much as I did with this diet.
I believe that you have to control your diet before added exercise.

I love the boldness in your confession. Doff the bag.
I live in NY so we have the best pizza.I eat pizza once a week, usually, but haven't had in 2 weeks.
Don't refrigerate the tomatoes! It kills the taste!
That's why you're so awesome. NY pizza is the best. If I still lived up east I would probably be over weight. I *love* Italian food. There is an amazing Italian restaurant in my town & I have to force myself to not eat there every day. The food is to die for!

"Like" (!!!!)
Very true, I follow my patients for years to help keep them on track. There is always one that gained 50# because she hurt her foot and couldn't exercise.
Riiiight. What does that have to do with stuffing cake in your pie hole all day?
I don't actually say that.. well, 99% of the time I don't use those actual words. I just explain that it takes a lot of calories to gain 50#, where are they coming from? Top that with... it takes a lot of calories to maintain a bigger body, where are those calories coming from? Then I usually get the truth. When I get the truth the patient hears her truth as well. THAT, I can work with. Then we can come up with a plan (injured foot and all) that s/he can live with and lose weight at the same time.
I especially love it when they tell me I just do not understand! Heh... lap band 2006, revision to vertical sleeve gastrectomy 2008 and $25K out of pocket... I think I pretty well "get" it. HA!
When you consider that one pound equals 3500 calories, it doesn't take long to accumulate, not as easy to lose. Daily caloric intake varies according to age, activity, gender, but should be in the range of 1400-1900 calories.
One fast food meal is around 1500-2000 calories. There you go. Or that piece of cake is 400-600 calories.
It is really hard not to gain weight. For me, my brain thinks if I eat something my body will feel better. That doesn't work. I also find that I want to eat before I go to bed in the morning. I have solved that by eating something low calorie like two eggs, over hard or scrambled. (then I don't want toast). Not that I've licked this, but I am making progress. Keep track of your calories and eat as little as you have to before going to sleep in the morning. Good luck.

My old hospital had that as well. Our Employee Health Dept. ran a Biggest Loser contest. It was SO much fun, and the winner lost 49 pounds and now teaches a Zumba class at affiliated gym. She worked in the snack bar- so this changed her life.
Crunch, have you had NY pizza? You cannot discard the crust. That is...not living.
