How many of you wear your rings during clinicals? My e-ring sits up pretty high and I'm always hitting it. i'm afraid this will be a problem once school actually starts. Should i just stop wearing it once clinicals start?

buy a long STURDY chain to put them on while you are at work ...long enough to go under your shirt and sit by your bra. I always used an old fashioned diaper pin and pinned them to my bra.

We also got stories from our instructors about lost diamonds, so I wasn't taking a chance with mine! Didn't want to scratch a patient with it either, of course. We aren't allowed to wear any jewelry at all except wedding ring and small stud earrings... No necklaces of any kind at clinicals, so wearing the engagement ring on a chain wouldn't work in my class.

My school had a one ring only policy but it could be massive rock, as long as it was only one. I just took mine off on clinical days. I've been married for almost 15 years and wearing it for almost 16 years so I wasn't insecure about taking it off. Heck, I have such an obvious mark on my finger I look either recently widowed or divorced when it's not on! LOL.

Anyway, it's not worth it to me to have something happen to my ring so I'd rather keep it at home on days I'm at the hospital and put it back on when I get home.

GrnTea, yes, I also would worry that with a necklace there is always a small chance that the clasp will pop open, or that the necklace will catch on to something on accident and break. I think it's amazing how you pin (or used to pin) your rings onto the inside of your bra. It's definitely not going to get lose with a pin, and no worries about something happening to the rings left at home, in case the house is, I dread to think, is robbed or a fire happens. I really like your idea...My engagement ring is so special to me, and I would love to keep it close. I think I will pin mine too. :yeah:

My nursing school also had a no necklace policy, so that would not have been possible for our students. One of my fellow students tried wearing a simple crucifix necklace that laid under her uniform but an instructor saw it one day and she lost points for being out of uniform. Obviously not every program is going to have that rule but it's a good idea to double check first.

I almost never wore my wedding ring to work. It was an 18 karat gold domed very wide heavy band. I knew what kind of wedding ring I wanted and didn't want an engagement ring since they couldn't be worn at the same time. We put a down payment on our first house instead.

Neither my husband or I has ever felt that the wearing of a ring is the cement that keeps us married, faithful, or in love wit each other,

so if I didn't wear my ring while I worked, so what? The ring coming off doesn't make me feel any less married. My husband takes his ring off when he mows the lawn or uses the weed wacker as a safety issue. Again, removing it doesn't make him any less faithful or married.

I don't take mine off because I can't get it over my knuckle easily. During my first semester in clinicals, I used soap to pry it off & I started to get a red, inflamed & swollen area on my knuckle after a few weeks. So I said forget it and stopped removing it. No one ever noticed (it's a rule at school, no rings) and the irritation healed up. I work full time in a hospital & it's never a problem. No trouble at all with gloves or anything. When we had my ring made, I requested that the diamond be set lower than normal, and now I'm very glad that I did. That was 14+ years ago :)

Hahaha I'll never have this problem because my boyfriend will probably never propose LOL

Lol! Same here! Going on six years now....oh well.

Our school says only bands but even then I'm not wearing any rings or earrings.

I'm sad to read this because I love my ring! I didn't realize so many people don't wear theirs or aren't allowed to. My diamond is big and sits up really high. I never thought about needing to take it off at work. :-(

I don't wear my ring to clinicals...my hubby and son picked me out the most gorgeous brilliant cut for our 10 year anniversary and both gave it to me and asked if they could be the men in my life forever....I would croak if I lost that ring! The pinning idea is a good one! I have said many times what a shame it is to have a gorgeous ring and hardly ever get to enjoy it :)

We are not allowed to wear our engagement rings during clinicals. I wouldn't anyway, those things could be horrific on skin that is in poor condition anyway. I have scratched myself with mine many times.
