OT: engagement rings during clinicals?

How many of you wear your rings during clinicals? My e-ring sits up pretty high and I'm always hitting it. i'm afraid this will be a problem once school actually starts. Should i just stop wearing it once clinicals start?

I do not wear my ring during clinicals or at work. It's set high, and I scratch myself all the time. I don't want to scratch my patients or get it contaminated in anyway. It also rips gloves. I don't want to draw any extra attention to it or me either.

i used to wear my e-ring all over, clinical, but now i leave it at home incase i have to take it off, or scrub or get some mysterious fluid on it lol.

i know it'll be there when i get home :) i rather that than have a ripped glove and have it dropped in a red bag to get some poop off it (god forbid)

It took me a minute to figure out what the heck an e-ring was. LOL I was like is that some new form of computer ring. :p

Lol..too funny! Sorry about that...some sort of lingo I picked up when I was still in jewelry forums trying to design my ring. HAHA

In another thread on this subject (https://allnurses.com/general-nursing-discussion/do-you-wear-464743.html), I liked the response of elkpark

I go by the maxim we were told repeatedly in nursing school -- never wear anything to work that you wouldn't want (couldn't stand) to have ruined/destroyed.

I used to work as a busser in a restaurant and wore my engagement ring, which would sometimes get stuff in it. We used buckets with sanitizer and soaked towels. We would get so busy sometimes that the sanitizing solution would become opaque from lots of stuff floating in it, and the ring with all its crevices would inevitably get bathed in that yuck. I guess I just couldn't stand to not wear my engagement ring, as I just got married at the time...I am not a nursing student yet, but I would not want to worry about getting anything on my engagement ring, or keeping it clean throughout the shift. I will most likely only be wearing my plain wedding band, at least at first until I get used to the environment...and know that it will be OK to wear the engagement ring too.

My rings sit up pretty high, I have always had trouble getting them stuck on gloves for various reasons. I start my program at the end of the month, so I'm guessing I will be taking them off. Especially since I keep reading that yucky stuff can get caught up in them.

We used my grandmother's diamond for my engagement ring and I wear another old family heirloom ring on my right hand. It would absolutely kill me to lose them if the house were burgled or burnt down, so every morning I used to pin them on my bra and tuck them securely into the cup. All my bras had safety pins on 'em, LOL.

The necklace might be a good idea too but what if its clasp pops open?

I'm super hesitant to wear my engagement ring and wedding ring. :-( My engagement ring has lost one of its center stones in the past, not to mention, the entire set is extremely expensive, so I'm likely to take them off for clinical.

I'm so sad to need to remove my rings for clinicals- but I don't want them damaged nor do I want to risk exposure to nastiness by my stone ripping my glove! Currently, my engagement ring is an asscher cut diamond flanked by two square cut sapphires and my wedding band is an eternity style that alternates diamonds and sapphires all the way around.

Oh well... Sounds like the hubs will just need to buy me a new, plain band, eh? ;)

GrnTea, yes, I also would worry that with a necklace there is always a small chance that the clasp will pop open, or that the necklace will catch on to something on accident and break. I think it's amazing how you pin (or used to pin) your rings onto the inside of your bra. It's definitely not going to get lose with a pin, and no worries about something happening to the rings left at home, in case the house is, I dread to think, is robbed or a fire happens. I really like your idea...My engagement ring is so special to me, and I would love to keep it close. I think I will pin mine too. :yeah:

~Melissa~, yes, it may be the case. :shy: I've definitely read of Nurse ladies getting plain wedding bands or bands with stones set deep into the ring to wear to work, in place of their more accented rings.

I just wear my band and sometimes I dont wear it all. My instructor told us about a doctor that he worked with who lost her engagement ring in a glove and had to dig through the trash to find it. I really dont think its a big deal if I dont wear my ring. I think the indentation from wearing it for 14 years says I'm married. :)

Melissa,

I want to see a picture of your ring it sounds beautiful! :)
