I keep seeing people mentioning that they have/had multiple orientation days. Is this normal? I guess I never thought there'd be more that one..
We had a meeting several months ago in order to turn in all of our paperwork and got info on more testing and what to bring to orientation. The actual orientation day is 8 hours. It will be held the week before classes start and hosted by the sophmore nursing class. I know we will be ordering uniforms that day and talk about books/equipment needed for class, but I'm not sure about any more details. I, too, am very excited! The start of the semester is getting close!
My orientation is Friday. Starts at 9 and I have no idea how long it lasts. I also just got a letter on Tuesday saying that I have to stay after for some sort of Math Remediation class to brush up on my math skills since I only got an 80 in Math on my TEAS. I'm wondering how many other classmates will be there too. I'm actually pretty happy about it since I haven't been in school for about 10 years...I'm going to need all the help I can get!!
My school has two days. We had one back in May where we went over the program's policies, the required immunizations, background checks etc. We also have another orientation day in two weeks which they merely described as an orientation to the program. We also have a mandatory fire safety class that is required for our clinical sites located in Los Angeles County before school starts if you want to count that as well.
We had an online orientation with immunization requirements, general nursing school info, and the paperwork that needed to be completed when we came to the in-person orientation.
The in-person was two full days, and lunch was provided. Before we could head into the room, we had to turn in our immunization records, HIPPAA, OSHA, and BLS certificates, and sign away our firstborn child. We had presentations about financial aid, scheduling, ATI, how to navigate the school's online system, etc, and the professors went over the syllabuses. It was a lot of "Nursing school IS your life now." I'm in an accelerated program, so there was no required general university orientation, because they figured you already knew how college worked (tho you could sign up for one if you wanted).
For next semester (my 2nd) we just had an hour orientation after our last final for one of our two classes. Clinical orientation will be the first two "clinical" days of the semester, tho we had to fill out all the paperwork a few weeks ago.
We have three total. The first was in April and it was mandatory, if you missed it you lost your spot (my brother was killed in an accident on that day, and I still had to go, it was rough). But we got a bunch of paperwork and all the info on background check, physicals, immunizations required, etc. Now we have one coming up Aug. 15th from 8:30am-12:30pm and another 8:30am-12:30 pm one on August 20, which is the first day of class. I haven't gotten any info on what all these next two entail, so I'm just going to take a notebook and hope for the best! :)

I am so very sorry for your loss
I have three seperate orientations. One is online, two are at the college. My program doesn't start until January, but my first orientation is September, then the online one in October, and the final one is two weeks before class actually starts. I also had to meet with an advisor the day i turned in my application and another meeting with the dean of students this past Friday.
My program is very involved with their students. They help each student academically, personally, emotionally, and even financially. They have programs set in place for all kinds of things. Therapist if you need one, financial assistance for car repairs or utility bills that you can't pay for, job placement for during school and also after graduation, tutors, stress management, even doctors that you can see. All of this at no additional cost to the student. My first two meetings were to cover all of that. I am sure the next three orientations will be more about the class and schedules. It is noce to know that my school offers all of these things, though. It really seems like they care for us to be as successful as possible!

Orientation at my school is next Tuesday (8/7) and I cannot wait!!!! I'm so ready to go and get all the information have been waiting to get!! Our classes to not start until the end of August. Past students say ours will consist of drug screening, background check info, financial aid, speeches from prior and current students, math for meds test (which we have to pass to be able to start, but get 2 tries). They will also help up register for our classes and give us our schedule! SO ready! :)
