One Of The Saddest Things I've Seen... Can't Stop Laughing

Nurses General Nursing

So I went to work yesterday and our two new grads with less than a year of experience were precepting two new grads! I'm sorry but it's so sad. I just can't stop laughing. There's no more room for outrage anymore. One of them just makes me crazy. She leaves things half way done and we have to clean up after her sometimes when she leaves. Talk about cheap labor. I actually want to tell my patients to run for the nearest exit! I'm so sorry I just can't stop laughing! Look what healthcare has come to! (It's not really funny, but what can you do? I mean who in their right minds would authorize this? Like I said, there is just no more room for outrage. Sometimes you just have to laugh. I'm not in the US anymore. I mean you have two brand new nurse's practicing under the license of two fairly new nurses). He He He He!!!

I'm not so sure this is really all that funny, but I guess it is what it is. I'm not going to ramble on about what should be done because I am just a Nursing Student myself, but it seems to me like there should be a better way to train the new graduate nurses, and I'm also not sure laughing hysterically is going to solve anything either.

Ok guys. Let me clarify something because I thought you guys are intelligent to realize that I'm being sarcastic and it's not funny. It's plain and simply scary! (Come on think about it?). The reason I took this approach is because I've got no more tears left. I've spent a year wondering when I'm going to loose my license. Rather than cry or scream about it, I just choose to laugh. I mean this can't be right. It must be a joke. I've gone from the bottom to the top of the administration crying to them that we are not safe! But yet, when I come back to work the next day, it's the same traumatizing situation over and over and over again. Don't you think that I'm shock and outraged by this? I know it's not funny. So please don't take it the wrong way people. Patients lives here are at stake because one simple mistake can cause serious harm.

Sounds like you need to find another place to work.

Help them? Are you serious? I'm trying not to loose my precious nursing license and cause harm to innocent patients. They just don't care! I can't tell you how many crazy and just plain down right wrong things they've done. I wonder why they can't hold on to their nurses and the experienced nurses are just trying to survive their shifts.

I'm not sure I'd want you on my team- you're detracting and a fairly new grad too!

We are intelligent enought to realize you are being sarcastic...obviously no one in their right mind would find this situation funny. I guess my question is if you are that concerned about losing your license, why are you still working there?

You've been a nurse for like a hot second... ya know, people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

What's that saying? If you're not part of the solution, then you're part of the problem.

I just think that your attitude about it is poor. How about presenting the idea to your NM about forming a committee to encourage retention of staff, or a better way of training new nurses?

How about letting the OP vent a little..... sigh.... without 'high moral grounders' taking over the thread...

That's why there are blogs. :)

When you vent at a message board, expect people to respond.

Have these "new grads" passed the NCLEX? Or since you are "not in the US anymore," have they passed whatever licensing exam they are supposed to pass in order to be registered nurses (or LPN's if that is the case)?

Never thought it was funny, because i was in that situation last year. Not really anything i could get out of. But thats beside the point.

BAsically, i agreed that it is not a good idea, i just describe it as the blind leading the blind.
