Hello my fellow nursing students. I will be starting my nursing classes on July 6. That's only 12 days from now! I'm both excited and nervous. We had our first orientation yesterday, well it was more like a meet and greet. I have been on YouTube all day looking at videos on nursing school supplies. So I will be starting my school shopping this week. When did you get your school supply list? I was hoping to get mine at orientation, but nope no list! I hope that we can keep each other encouraged through the process. Congratulations to everyone who got accepted into the program.
Exactly! I'm almost tempted to go and get at least the titers done so that I can start getting any immunizations I might need. But I'm afraid that I may not get in and it will be a waste of money. I have a 3.81 GPA and I got an 81.3 on the TEAS which is fairly good for the schools I applied to, but I am still terrified!

Well I hope you make it in! I bet you will with those scores.

Congratulations to you too! I think that we were at South U around the same time. I start nursing
school in August in TX. FINALLY!!
What stethoscopes do you guys recommend? I am still in the process of trying to find a good stethoscope that isn't too costly. I'm on a budget.
One of the best pieces of advice that I got was not to skimp when it comes to your stethoscope. Most people recommend getting a Littmann. The Littmann Classic II se is a good stethoscope that is not overly expensive. Amazon has them in the $70 dollar range with free shipping. The best deal I found if you don't want to get the stethoscope itself engraved. You can buy a name tag that can be attached to the stethoscope, which you can either mark it with a sharpie or there is a metal plate you can send in to have engraved for $7. Other stethoscopes will do the job, but they can make it more difficult to hear certain sounds. Since our ears are untrained right now, in my opinion it is better to get a good quality stethoscope that will make it easier.
The one thing I have heard is to make sure that which ever stethoscope you do get make sure it is a single lumen and not a double like some of the ones you see in the uniform stores. The double lumen ones can rub on each other making it harder to differentiate the sounds that you are listening for.

My sprague is a double and as an EMT it was never a quiet environment and it was a little tough to learn on. For nursing school I sprung for the Littmann cardio III because I didn't want to be in a situation where I had to guess sounds. I would agree that investing is a good idea. The Littmann lightweight is around $50 on Amazon I think and I've heard good things about it, but it doesn't have a peds to adult bell
