Ok Class of 2017, Where are you??

Published

Hello my fellow nursing students. I will be starting my nursing classes on July 6. That's only 12 days from now! :nailbiting: I'm both excited and nervous. We had our first orientation yesterday, well it was more like a meet and greet. I have been on YouTube all day looking at videos on nursing school supplies. So I will be starting my school shopping this week. When did you get your school supply list? I was hoping to get mine at orientation, but nope no list! I hope that we can keep each other encouraged through the process. Congratulations to everyone who got accepted into the program.

FYI: first couple of semester's book bills may be outrageous but they are books you'll use throughout school (lab book, med book, nursing diagnosis, physical assessment, etc.) so don't freak too bad. It won't be that way every semester.

Another FYI: my first semester of nursing school books cost me around $700. Took me 3 trips to my car to carry them out. But some of my later semesters were only $50

@anh06005 do you remember having a lot of assignments in the first semester? Or was it a ton a reading and exams?

Hey hey! I start August 30 but have already had orientation last month. I have started a 4 week intro to nursing class that covers brief nursing history, domains of nursing and some theory and going over rules and regs of the program. But unfortunately that leaves me with the entire month of August off waiting excitedly to start like a kid waiting for Christmas. Although I think the first week of August they post some supplies and directions and stuff on our online meeting space.

My dear friend bought and shipped me a Littman as a surprise, my other friend bought me a nursing school planner. I have a wishlist going on Amazon, which includes this awesome clipboard with lab values that folds to fit into scrub pockets.

My scrubs were purchased and sent to be embroidered and I just picked them up last week

Would love to only have 6 required books. So far from what I have figured out for first semester we have 10 required books, with 9 recommended and we need to buy a RF response card (figured out it is a clicker). Fortunately I have gotten all except 3 of the required books off amazon. Have found the remaining three on the list, just need to get them ordered. The good thing is most of these books are used through out most of the classes in the program. Once I get the remaining books I figure they have cost me about $400 so far. Thankfully I have been able to find a lot of good deals on amazon so far.

A bit of both but it really depends on the school. I recently found some of my old careplans and remembered how much work they were and how much I DID NOT use careplans when I started working.

Yes you can absolutely find better deals online. Unfortunately it wasn't until more like junior year I decided to NOT just go into my on campus bookstore to get everything......I was paranoid about getting the wrong books online.

HI!!! Just finished my 1st semester@ Rhode Island College! Already have reading assignments for fall! Best advice: STAY ON TOP OF READING/ASSIGNMENTS! Look at syllabus & try to be at least a week or two AHEAD of readings! Look at notes EVERYDAY in small doses...impossible to "cram" days/night before exam....recognize your weaknesses & focus more attention on that topic/area...it has worked for me & hopefully it will get me through this program lol P.s. - I bought Saunders NCLEX study book...its GREAT! Get's you used to nursing/critical-thinking questions!

Hey there :). I also begin my program in January 2016. My graduation date could either be in May 2017 (ADN) or March 2018 (Diploma) depending on which program I officially accept acceptance to.

Best Wishes and Congratulations!

Hi! I also start my classes in January 2016 - just got my acceptance letter a few days ago! I'm so excited.

Congratulations to everyone who has been accepted, and good luck to those of you still waiting to hear!

Holy cow, 3 trips to carry all the books to your car?! I sure hope you didn't need to bring them all on the same day for classes...otherwise you'd have to rent a wagon to tote them all! I'm just now starting to look over my book list...crazy expensive, but I've been price checking them on amazon and half.com, and I'm finding some way better deals. So that's a bit of a relief. But geez, all these supplies add up quick. I'm glad to know that the later semesters won't be nearly as bad.

Ahh I really hope to join you all in a few weeks. One of the places I applied just had their cutoff date June 30th. So, I should find out in two weeks! The other school doesn't send out letters until some time in August. Which is crazy for a September start date. Praying I get into the first school and don't have to be on pins and needles until next month some time. Congrats to all of you

Good luck FNPwannabe123! I agree that is cutting it pretty close. My orientation is set for August 10th and our first day is August 17th. So I understand how you feel I'm not sure how they expect you to have everything done before the first day. Keep us posted!

I looked at that clipboard on Amazon and have heard a lot of good things about it! I got the storage one from target only because I hate when my papers are bent!
