I am a 44 year old CNA. been one on and off for 25 years.. The time is finally right in my life to go back to school and finish my RN... My job where I work does FULL tuition reimbursement for this. I love where I work and it would be no problem staying there for many many many years. I know alot of people go back to school at all ages. I just wanna hear some input on the ones that did go closer to 40 years of age and beyond :) Thanks all in advance.. Annd would a BSN really be worth it?

I'm 43 and finishing my RN program next month (God willing!). I worked in accounting before, but when I got laid off in '09, I decided to change careers.

It's not too late for you to pursue the RN. Go forth !!

Thank you! I am definitely going for it :) you are right never to old to go back to school

So glad you've decided to go back to school. You definitely have a nurses' heart to have been a CNA for as long as you have. Good luck to you and girl, age ain't nothing but a number!! :)

It's never to late to go back! You rather be ur age & be something instead of nothing go for it! GOODLUCK

Go for it!!!

Age is just a number, life is worth living on your terms!!!!

You go girlfriend! We have your back! ;)

I'm 42 and hope to get into RN program in the fall. Second career for me. YOU CAN DO IT TOO! For me, BSN is just a few more classes so why not? I've waiting this long so might as well take a few more semesters in order to make more money.

I'm 44 and just finished the ADN pogram with honors. I also had classmates who were older than me and made it.

I'm 41 and will start my nursing classes in the fall. I will be 44 when I graduate with my BSN! I currently work in L&D as a scrub tech and plan on staying here once I'm done. Go for it!

Don't let age hold you back from furthering your education, as long as that's what you really want to do. I'm 44 and am in the process of applying for the nursing program at my school (finished pre-requisites last month -- yay!). Once I finish my ADN and pass the NCLEX, I fully intend to bridge to BSN.

I'll be 45 when I start the program and 47 when I graduate with my ADN. Do I wish I had started this a little earlier? Yes, I do. Am I letting that stop me? Nope.

I've heard repeated warnings about the toll nursing can take on the bodies of us older women, but since you're already a CNA, that shouldn't be an issue.

Oh man, with full tuition reimbursement I think you'd be crazy not to jump at the chance!

IMO CNA work is much harder physically than RN work.

I saw something along the lines of this somewhere on AN:

You are going to be 48-49 whether or not you go to nursing school.

What would be to point of not going to nursing school if that's what you want, especially if your financial/home situation would allow it.
