OHSU Accelerated BSN 2016

Published

Hello! Hopefully this is posted in the correct forum. I've been looking for months to see if anyone has started a thread about applying to OHSU's ABSN program for 2016, and couldn't find anything (just a thread for the traditional BSN). So I thought I'd start one!

I finished my Nursing CAS application in November, and just updated with my fall term grades last week. So now I'm anxiously awaiting contact!

A little about me and my app:

I come from a social science background, and have worked in the non-profit sector for the last 7 years. I'm a Portland native, and am currently working as a birth doula. I volunteer in a NICU, and I have a 17 month old son. My cumulative GPA is 3.96, and I still need to complete A&P III and Statistics (winter term) and Microbiology (spring term). I did ask OHSU if not having all the prerequisite complete at the time of application would affect my chances, and they said that it wouldn't (so hopefully that's the case!).

I'd love to hear from other applicants, so please feel free to post a little about yourself!

Does anyone know how many people were called to interview?

Does anyone have any insight on what kind of interview questions they will ask us? Have any of you talked to previous applicants that told you anything?

I don't know Shanryan :(

i don't know Jhansen.

Jhansen, I have been reviewing lots of articles that list possible questions. I haven't really heard much, but it sounds like each interviewee gets different questions, which could range from "typical" questions like "tell me about yourself," or "why would you make a good nurse" to questions that are more situational and focused on interactions.

Has anyone heard much about the interview process for Ashlands ABSN interview process? It sounds like the Portland interviews are group, but I am wondering if it is the same for Ashland.

EEk! I get butterflies just thinking about it.

Specializes in Emergency Room, CEN, TCRN.

There use to be a list of sample questions on the OHSU site... they seemed a bit more in depth than "what's your name?"

They were more ethical kind of questions, like "what do you do when your patient is pregnant and smoking?"

Hi AMbull!

I spoke to my advisor when I called to confirm I would be attending the ABSN Ashland interview. I was told the interview process is similar to "speed dating". There will also be a prompt and we will have to write an essay about it.

Some of the statistics I enquired about: there were about 80 applicants, 40 were asked to interview. There are 18 spots available, a total of 24 in the cohort including the students accepted into the accelerated bachelor's to NP program.

Hello everyone- I hope you don't mind me popping in. I'm accepted into the AccBacc to PMHNP/DNP program this summer and I've been lurking around to see who I'll be meeting in June. I haven't found a Psych thread yet, so I thought I'd pop in here and say good luck to everyone interviewing and I hope I'll be meeting some of you this summer!

Thank you AMbull for giving us some details from your phone call.

Interview time is 12:30 to 4:30.

Does anyone know if the interview is 4 hours long?

Also, for the other members asking about the questions, there are resources on the web with some of the common questions.

In the email I got (Portland campus) they gave a sample schedule including 1.5 hours for essay writing and 1 hour for an interview, as well as a half an hour orientation.

Thanks @bigskygirl!! Those are actually pretty good statistics, almost a 50% chance of getting in once you're selected to interview. Kind of makes me wish I applied for Ashland!! Haha.

Thank you 4 sharing the conversation w/ur advisor Bigskygilr.

Thank you James75 for sharing your letter from the PD campus.

Glad you checked in this forum Sspears

If there is anyone traveling from out of town to Ashland for the ABSN interviews on March 5th and needs a place to stay, I live in the area and am more than happy to open my home up to travelers :)
