OHSU Accelerated BSN 2016

Published

Hello! Hopefully this is posted in the correct forum. I've been looking for months to see if anyone has started a thread about applying to OHSU's ABSN program for 2016, and couldn't find anything (just a thread for the traditional BSN). So I thought I'd start one!

I finished my Nursing CAS application in November, and just updated with my fall term grades last week. So now I'm anxiously awaiting contact!

A little about me and my app:

I come from a social science background, and have worked in the non-profit sector for the last 7 years. I'm a Portland native, and am currently working as a birth doula. I volunteer in a NICU, and I have a 17 month old son. My cumulative GPA is 3.96, and I still need to complete A&P III and Statistics (winter term) and Microbiology (spring term). I did ask OHSU if not having all the prerequisite complete at the time of application would affect my chances, and they said that it wouldn't (so hopefully that's the case!).

I'd love to hear from other applicants, so please feel free to post a little about yourself!

I just finished my interview process! I feel great about the essay but not so great about the interview. The format of the interview was so unlike anything I've ever experienced and I felt like my answers were shallow or not fully developed. But oh well! We'll find out.

I just got a PM but the site won't let me view it because I'm a new member. Apparently you need to have submitted 15 posts before messaging is activated. Just wanted to put this out there in case the person who messaged me thinks I'm flaking out and not responding--I simply cannot read the message. Bummer!

For those who interviewed at Portland-

Any recommendations for people interviewing at Ashland tomorrow? Any kind of feedback would be spectacular :)

Finished mine as well. I don't feel like I did particularly well on either but I also don't feel like I bombed. What will be will be at this point.

I did hear that the ratings of how we did on the essays and interviews are added to a number of points we already have, so the rest of your application still matters. Not sure if my GPA or anything else in there is exactly top of the pack, though, so it's not really worrying or exciting.

Hopefully we'll hear closer to "as soon as possible," or "April 1st hopefully," and less close to "April 15th at the latest," but I appreciate they're processing a lot of applications right now,

I would say just relax as much as possible. It's not that bad, really. :)

How much time is allotted to answer the questions during the interview?

Was the essay more directed towards our ethics and moralities or current events in healthcare?

Thank you so much for the feedback :)

We're not allowed to give out any information about the questions or the essay; sorry! But you have two minutes to answer interview questions. My main piece of advice is to just relax, be yourself, and let your personality come through. Try to think of original answers and interesting examples in your life. Good luck!

The last group of interviewees for 2016 has finished now.

Lets keep in touch so we can be a resource to each other for the the next step of the process.

Good Luck to all of US. :nurse:

Completed my interview today at Ashland. I actually thought it was rather fun! We had five stations, each with our own individual interviewer and one question. We were given two minutes to contemplate our answers, then 10 minutes to discuss it with the interviewer. I think it was a great way to interview the candidates. Our essay prompt wasn't too stressful either! Good luck to everyone who interviewed!

Hi guys,

Just now jumping into this discussion. I finished my interview at the Portland campus yesterday afternoon. I have similar reactions to those already mentioned. Challenging questions in interview and fun essay. I appreciate all the helpful advice you all have provided. Good luck to everyone!

bigskygirl,

Did you interview in the AM or PM?
