OHSU Accelerated BSN 2016

Published

Hello! Hopefully this is posted in the correct forum. I've been looking for months to see if anyone has started a thread about applying to OHSU's ABSN program for 2016, and couldn't find anything (just a thread for the traditional BSN). So I thought I'd start one!

I finished my Nursing CAS application in November, and just updated with my fall term grades last week. So now I'm anxiously awaiting contact!

A little about me and my app:

I come from a social science background, and have worked in the non-profit sector for the last 7 years. I'm a Portland native, and am currently working as a birth doula. I volunteer in a NICU, and I have a 17 month old son. My cumulative GPA is 3.96, and I still need to complete A&P III and Statistics (winter term) and Microbiology (spring term). I did ask OHSU if not having all the prerequisite complete at the time of application would affect my chances, and they said that it wouldn't (so hopefully that's the case!).

I'd love to hear from other applicants, so please feel free to post a little about yourself!

I am so happy I found this board! I applied as well, but have not heard anything. Last Friday I realized I probably didn't get in, which is unfortunate but okay. I graduate this spring with my undergrad, and it gives me this term and next to get my GPA up higher to be more competitive for next year (I currently have just over a 3.5). If they still have emails to send out, that would be fantastic & I won't give up hope until I get a letter in the mail confirming my suspicions. I wanted to wish all of you good luck! We have all worked hard to get here, and I hope each of you get in!

For those of you still waiting, I'm sorry about that! I'm sure the suspense is awful. I'm not sure how long it takes to send out all the emails, but hopefully you'll find out soon.

Panalitos: As for the Survey Monkey poll, it should have directed you to a "thank you" page after you submitted your info. I think that's the only confirmation we'll get that they received our response.

Hello! I have been constantly reading the older and traditional BSN forum, but just now stumbled upon this one!

A little about me... I currently have my Bachelors degree as a Registered Vascular Technologist (nearly 3 years clinical experience) and have approximately five years of care giving experience both in memory care and assisted living. I have taken a CNA course but never followed through with getting the certification. My GPA is a little lower than everyone elses (I think my prereq GPA is around 3.7) and accumulative is 3.49 (Sad about this.. my Bachelors degree had a 3.5 GPA but an outside undergrad class brought my grade down a little).

I submitted my application for both the ABSN (Ashland) and BSN (Klamath Falls- I did my undergrad there) and have applied to Chemeketa and Linfield, as well. It is so stressful having to wait!!

I just got the email this week (Feb 16th at 9 am) that I am invited to interview for the ABSN program on March 5th! I am shocked because of my lower GPA.

Does anyone know how many applications they received, how many people they are interviewing and approximately how many spots they have this year?

Good luck everyone!!

Hello AMBull! I don't know the numbers for this year, but this is from 2014 (most current on their site):

Accelerated BS Program (2014)

  • Approximately 350 applications
  • Admitted approximately 44 students for the summer cohort and 24 students for the fall cohort
  • Average GPA of accepted students: 3.76

Accelerated BS Program Ashland (2014)

  • Approximately 76 applications for approximately 16 positions
  • Average GPA of accepted students: 3.69

BS with a major in nursing program (2015)

  • Ashland campus: approximately 130 applications for approximately 32 positions
  • Klamath Falls campus: approximately 90 applications for approximately 24 positions

Has anyone received a rejection letter? being in limbo is so nerve wracking.

It might be different for the absn, but the 3 yr ocne program sent out an email saying if you aren't selected to interview you won't be contacted.

Yes, that's correct. I double checked, and the ABSN email states the same. :(

Welcome KayLyn & AMBull

Thank you!

Yep, just re-read my email too. Well good luck to those of you that did get an interview! Hopefully I will make it next year!

Thank you for linking me to this page @Delfena! I was wondering if there was going to be an ABSN forum!

I'll post some info about me too...

I graduated in 2014 with a double major in Sociology & Theology. And started taking my pre-reqs the term after I graduated. My undergrad GPA is not great. It's like a 3.69 I think. But my pre-req GPA is 4.0. However, because I double majored and have so many undergrad credits my overall GPA is like 3.71 or something. I end up being below average for the Portland campus which scares me.

I've been working at OHSU now for over a year but not in a medical capacity. I do scheduling and am like a administrative assistant for one of the doctors that I work for. Thankfully that doctor is soooo nice and believes in what I want to do so he lets me shadow him in the OR and in clinic on Mondays. So I've been shadowing for about 6 months now. I also have a lot of volunteer experience with various socioeconomic and ethnic groups in the LA metro area and Portland area.

I got my invite to interview last Friday at the Portland campus, I was kind of shocked but I'm so excited! :cat:

Welcome, itiswell! It sounds like you have a great background. I know OHSU values experience working with diverse groups, so that should look good for you. :) Do you already know what area of nursing you're most interested in?

Ah thank you! Yeah... I know they have an emphasis on working with diverse populations so I was hoping my experience with that would help me out.

I want to be a CRNA so hoping to go into the ICU for a couple years before applying to an anesthesiology program, but I know ICU jobs are so competitive. Oh well, I'm taking it one step at a time :)
