Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Updated:   Published

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

Got an email from the Transitions instructor. She said they've changed the format of the course so it will be a little different from what our friends have done.......oh well .......so much for the heads-up!

It is professor dependent anyway - my transitions class was much different from the Chuckster's class. And you rarely hear from the professor, it is the TA's that you interact with. Good luck! I think you will enjoy the class!!

I do NOT recommend this program. I have a bachelor's degree and a master's degree from Ohio University. I had a great experience there. Then, I applied to their RN-to-BSN program and the whole process has been an absolute joke. Three times now, they have told me they have everything they need and have given me a start date. Then, a month later (three times), they've sent me an E-MAIL telling me they need more things from me, and that my start date has been pushed back. One time, they told me they needed my OU transcripts! Why would I have OU send my transcripts to OU? That issue got me pushed back 2 months. After it, they promised me I'd be starting in October. Just this morning, I get yet another e-mail (never a phone call) telling me that I can't participate in the program because my employer is not one of their partners, so I need to start the application process over using a different form. This was never mentioned to me before, and I submitted the application 4 months ago. I am so upset with them, and I'm about to ask for my application fee back.

Seems to be a common theme here...especially from those of us who applied elsewhere and received clear, concise and prompt feedback from the (other) programs. But from what I've read here all are happy once they get through the hurdles.. Let s hope for the best! That stinks your employer is not part of the outreach initiative ...........although I really don't know what the difference is!!!!! Good luck.

I know a guy who applied in February and didn't hear from OU until June. They kept jerking him around and were very poor in providing any information during the whole admission process, very much like what you describe. They took so long in fact that he couldn't start until the second summer session in late July. He's gotten 3 iterations of his DARS report but yet they still can't tell him when the final evaluation will be complete. He bit the bullet however, enrolled in the program and is is happy so far, if a little bit p****d off about the admission and evaluation process.

PM me if you want more information . . .

Can anyone who's taken Cultural Diversity give me a thumbnail sketch of the course? Quizzes or papers or both? Did you use the text? A lot, a little? Outside reading? Understand that each instructor/TA combo approaches the course differently, just looking to get some general info with classes starting in only a few days.

I had Lyons. But basically know what your facility does to address diversity. Translators/etc. Find someone from another culture to assess. Had to do a big paper. Some quizzes. Discussions. Knowing your family tree. Loved this class. Learned a lot!!

Has anyone taken business composition? If so, do I need to purchase the bundle pack, or am I okay with just the textbook?

Thanks

FYI...Strategic Planning is now up on our class page. So NOW is a great time to get organized before class starts :)

Yes only because I called them. They said it was in the welcome packed sent to my ohio email but it wasn't! It's different than the other login passwords too.
