Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Updated:   Published

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

Has anyone doubled the RN-BSN core courses? Is it advisable for someone working Part-time 2-12shifts/week? I really want to get done with everything by summer next year:idea:

Thanks

Hey...I know this topic is HUGE, but if you scroll back, several have addressed a few of your questions, and will give you a bit more insight. I double up. Started doing it after I took my 2nd class. My schedule is flexible, so I can make it work. Key is being organized and not waiting until the last minute to do stuff. I literally dedicated Sun-Tues/Wed for 1 class, then Wed-Fri/Sat for another class. I don't try to do both classes at the same time b/c it's just too much information to deal with.

Thanks deltaroxxy2. You're correct about the instructor for Diversity. I just ordered the text for the course - was able to find a new 4th edition offered on line for a song - the bookstore wants $55 for the assigned 5th edition but my bet is that there isn't a great deal of difference between the two.

I found the 5th edition dirt cheap and bought it. Used it some in Community. Not sure if I'll use it again.

Thanks for the info @ chucks and Delta

Hello all,

I need growth and development class. Any recommendations? I am looking for the cheapest online way to do it. It is not offered by OU under the RN-to-BSN program. Thanks in advance!

Try your local community college or try the Kansas Community College System - Edukan.com I think is the http

Oh dear - was just looking at the fall course offerings, picked Strategic Planning - and I see there is a different text listed than previous. Just called the school of nursing - waiting on a call back. Is this a typo or have they changed books - the one listed is also listed for the capstone class. Just wondering if someone did an oops??

Chelsea from the school of nursing just called - the Huber text used in Mgt Issues is the correct text for Strategic Planning. But - just snagged the other text for 1/2 price - just going to stick it on the shelf until capstone time.

I see that this program is CCNE accredited, but not NLN accredited. I want to apply for this program as soon as I receive my license, but I'm still a little weary (mostly due to my lack of knowledge on the subject) of a program that lacks both accreditations. Is the CCNE sufficient for most graduate schools?

CCNE and NLNAC - regional and nationally accredited.

Thx, rninme. I will check into the kansas one. My local college has minimal online courses. Am also doing the strategic planning and cultural diversity. I buy used books on neebo.com. It is cheaper than many other online bookstores. They can even be much cheaper if you rent them. Am on the home-run with 3 classes left:yeah:

What do you have left to take??. Fall 1 I'm taking Strategic planning and bus. comp. After that all I'll have left is Nutrition, Health Intervention, Gerontology, and Excellence.

Got an email from the Transitions instructor. She said they've changed the format of the course so it will be a little different from what our friends have done.......oh well .......so much for the heads-up!
