Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Updated:   Published

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

@okurilen how many pages are most of the papers. I'm thinking about applying soon. Are they like 10 page papers, more or less?

@sillymu 600 words minimum for written assignments, 200 words minimum for discussion posts, and 100 words minimum for discussion posts responses

No comments in 2020? I am doing research for RN TO BSN online program and came upon with this school today. Will talk to their specialist next Monday.

I used Ohio for my BSN.. they give deals thru employers. I had tuition reimbursement. Many of my colleagues also used Ohio. It was the most reasonably priced school I could find. I don’t have one complaint about them. I did 1 class at a time so not to become overwhelmed with work/ school/ family balance. Basically classes consist of weekly discussion boards, writing papers (APA format which I bought a program to help with),,some classes have timed tests. It is Not to difficult- you just have to make the time. My hardest class was statistics ( not my forte) but I passed❤️. Feel free to reach out with questions and Good Luck.

@melodywei there is a facebook group that you can join. People are more active on there. I just started the program. So far so good.

@sillymu I tried searching for the group but cannot find it. Can you reply with the link. I am seriously considering the program. Thank you.

Hi,

I just enrolled in the OU RN-BSN and start 4510 soon.  I'm going to be working full-time during this program.  Can anyone who has completed it offer suggestions or things you wish you had known about the course prior to starting?  Study suggestions? Anything helpful?  Are there a lot of deadline changes?  I'm trying to be as prepared as possible, thanks in advance!

I completed my BSN at Molloy College in NY but I would think most courses are the same for Dual-Degree. I was a health science major turned BSN RN.

Prioritizing and scheduling was key for me in school.

Good resources is also key in school.

The only thing I wish I had known before was just how fast 5 weeks goes by. It's nice, but draining sometimes. I finished in 10 months. I worked 3 12s through the first 5 months and then went outpatient to 5 8s while also still working PRN in the hospital. Once you get in a groove and know what to expect it's pretty simple. I also don't have kids so if you do that might make a difference in your experience. I never studied. You're mostly writing discussion posts and short papers. Learn APA format or get a citation tool like mendley. DO NOT WASTE TIME BUYING THE TEXTBOOKS! You're only in the course for 5 weeks. You can typically find the book as a PDF online for free or for less than $10. Some past students even offer to send them to you if you ask on the facebook group.

If you're on facebook the group is very active so I suggest joining. Lots of tips and tricks there. Sometimes people have the PDF textbooks posted to the groups for the specific courses so you don't have to worry about finding them. https://www.facebook.com/groups/OhioUniversityRNBSN
