Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Updated:   Published

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

I finished 325 at 2:45 this morning and I couldn't be happier!!! This has definitely been the worst class so far, directions were HORRIBLE!!! Oh well, 335 with Fashion and Culture in January.... should be an interesting month.

Congrats to everyone! I'm glad to hear this is the worst class thus far...gives me hope! I considered taking the fashion culture course with 335 but I'm concerned about too much stress. I'll be interested to hear how that cultural course is. Enjoy your break!

I don't remember you asking to make this a sticky, but I'm happy to do it. I don't usually just arbitrarily do that in my forums. Happy Thanksgiving!

Lunah - Many thanks for making this change. I think that there are lots out there who will benefit from it being more visible.

Also, best of luck at your permanent duty station.

Finally, an end to the pain: I just posted my last DB response for 325.

Yea! Isn't it a wonderful feeling??!!! I love beating the deadline. I spend far too much time on those DB posts...searching and searching. I truly hope the next class isn't so dry and boring. chuckster, are you in ethics next? Enjoy some down time...though 2 weeks would be enough for me. I want to keep moving along. I've got about a year to go. If only I could double up classes...

Wish I had just taken 325 with the rest of you ... you'll hear me crying this summer, but I will be on the downhill slide by that time!! Hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday ... "see you" in January!!

Well at least you'll have about 10 of us to ask questions to. I told them they needed to revamp interventions. That's how horrible it was.

By next summer I would hope it's a new animal. Weird class but my TA was wonderful. All in all I am very pleased with the program. The 5 week courses are perfect. Just when you think you're gonna blow, it's over. I am really glad I'm going this route. I hope we don't see a big tuition hike come fall.

WOO! all done with 325! I know I'm joining the discussions a little late, but i'm here now and willing to help you all out!

I am posted to graduate March 2012 or June 2012 depending on if i take classes during the intercession. I work full time 3rd shift, and I take 2 classes at once for a total of 4 a quarter..

For those of you asking about credits transferring and are upset about your DARs reports... don't fret... the advisors personally go through every single class that did NOT transfer to make sure that it will not fulfill a requirement.. if it does they give you the credit, if it does not and you think it should.. tell them why, i was in constant contact with my advisor about various classes not counting for this or that.. and she did what she could to make it count..

If you guys have any questions let me know and I will try to help!

Thanks for the sentiment. I'd hoped that this could become a sticky so that when we're finished (hopefully by the end of next year) others would be able to benefit. Since the admins apparently don't agree, let's hope that folks bump it to the top of the "Distance Learning" thread occasionally so that newbies can see it. With well over 1,300 posts, there's obvious interest.

To those like mo2rn who are in the process of applying and waiting for their DARS, just remember that patience is a virtue that is highly valued by OU.

Happy Thanksgiving and here's to a well-deserved break. Then on to 325!

Looks like she's making it a sticky either way. But there are a few of us who are hopefully starting, so we'll probably keep it up anyways:)

Just to add Chuckster, MT. steelhorse and everyone else, you and this thread are what made me choose this school. I loved being able to read so much about things, and feel I was making an informed decision!

That's what this thread is all about. I started out in a different program and came back to OU. There is so much great information here and a load of support. It's a great way to get your BSN. Be patient with the process. It will pay off!

Finally. Finished. 325. So far, I finish with an 'A'. However, I will both laugh and cry the next time everyone gets 100% for (spending countless hours) attempting an assignment. I will also cry if I have to suffer through another class with incomplete, insufferable, and incongruent instructions. Cheers!
