Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.
I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.
As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.
As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.
Six, and I plan on doubling up in order to finish in May. Originally I was in an online program at Kent State but it was super expensive and the 7-week format sucked. I took Cultural Diversity and Strategic Planning simultaneously at OU last semester. While it was a fair amount of work, they were both interesting and I learned a lot. This was the worst class (in all aspects) so far.
Hmmm...makes me want to take two classes and move along more quickly. I just worry about the stress. I spend a LOT of time on one course alone. It takes me forever to write responses and back them with references. I'm thinking that culture fashion course might be one to take in conjunction with a nursing class.
Hi everyone...a few random questions as I apply to OU's online program.
1) Being that the program is switching to semesters, will the nursing classes still be offered at 5 weeks sessions, or longer? My main motivation for this program is the 5 weeks, I don't mind a little extra work, so long as it is over quickly! My attention span is severely impaired, can't stand the standard 15-week semesters.
2) Did anyone skip the "optional" essay on the application?
3) How long did it take to receive an acceptance notice?
4) What does testing out of the assessment class (or any others) require? A test, project, etc.?
5) Any one transfer in with a previous BA degree? Were all the general education credits accepted, or were there any you still needed to complete?
Thanks!

I'm like you, my attention span is a nano sec, but to really seek clarity in the questions you've asked, you must skim through this thread. People like Chuckster have discussed extensively the process.
1. It was posted that the RN classes will remain 5wks. Some will be combined. The 10wk classes will become 15wks.
2. I applied around Aug 2010, and started Jan 2011. And there wasn't an essay on my app.
3. I have some glitches w/my transfer transcripts. Was trying to start in Oct 2010, got didn't get acceptance until Oct 2010 for the Jan start date. My process was relatively smooth after they had all of my stuff. DARS w/in weeks. So I would base your expectation on what those currently accepted have been saying. (Chuckster wrote a lot about the issues he had).
4. I heard you could write an essay to get out of comp...NEVER SAW THAT OPTION. The only RN class you can test out of is assessment. (MANY posted about that process, since a bunch recently tested out of it).
5. I have a BS in Biochem. They accepted ALL of my credits. The only other classes I had to take were statistics, nutrition, junior comp, and art.
Mo2RN is correct about there being a lot of valuable info in this thread, hence why it's now a sticky. So just start off by skimming, and then if someone writes about something that you want more info on, just send them a private message.
Reading the sticky is fast and fun...not like a text book. Take the time to read at least a few pages a day and your questions will be answered...all of them! Semesters actually decrease the number of nursing classes...can test out of one course with studying...5 week classes/3 per semester starting fall 2012. I have a BS and all classes transferred. I need a cross cultural course in addition to the nursing curriculum. They are offering a new cultural class that is only 5 weeks starting 1st winter session...before it was 10 weeks. NO essay for application but the DARS report takes a long time...but worth it. They WILL give you credit for everything they possibly can. It's a great program and worth learning about on this extremely in depth forum created by chuckster. I'm at OU because of the information learned here. Read the entire thread so you can be well informed. Good luck!
Lovenanj, while the tread is long, I agree it is worth the read. Even if you just read 5-10 pages a day. Some stuff you can skip over. But the first half of the thread has the most info, as that is when everyone was just starting out.
As far as testing out of assessments, I want to say it was studying, and then 3 or 5 tests. But I'm not 100% sure. I'm hoping to start in March.
When did you apply for? Things may be a bit different for us from some of the problems others had as well, being that they were starting when things were transferring to a new computer system. With any luck we don't have as many issues.
One test for 310 to test out. If you pass you take the test grade for the class and no more requirements. If you don't like your grade or don't pass you just continue on with the class. You have to pass with 80%. It's offered the first 3 days of the class. I was just shy of an A but didn't want to take the class. It's a 2 hr test and worth a try.

Congrats! I hear they aren't all like this. We can only hope, lol! How many courses have you taken?
