Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Updated:   Published

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

I surf the internet. Check out sites like the CDC, NIH, ANA...google is my friend. :D There is the online library at OU also but I haven't had great success using it.

Thanks guess Google will be my new pal.

Yeah, don't stress over that part. You can find lots of good articles and information. Once you find sites you like bookmark them into your favorites. The key is time management and not getting behind. It's a good program. The 5 week format is fantastic.

I've used CINAHL or EBHOST with some luck. Not everything has full text! I belong to an organization that has lots of stuff. You can get info from anywhere really....even a podcast!

Glad to hear everyone made it through 325. Really not looking forward to taking that class next summer. I take my PSY 120 (Statistics) final on Monday at OU-Lancaster. Then in January it's on to 335-Legal/Ethical Issues and will also be taking the Business Composition course this winter quarter to fulfill the Jr. Comp requirement. Only other non-nursing course I have to take is a Fine Arts course. I really hope they offer the 5 week music class in the spring. I noticed it was offered for the Academic Outreach students for winter quarter, but I'm an Online Bachelor's Completion student so really hoping they offer that class to "my group" in either the spring or summer. Hope everyone enjoys their break

Yes take MUSIC..Easiest A ever. And it doesn't matter where it's offered, you can still enroll in it. I just completed Jun Comp. Would have to say it's been my favorite class. Shocking for me to admit since I hate writing, but man did I learn a lot about myself in that class. And Professor P is beyond organized and provides you with a TON of resources to help you be successful. I didn't buy the bundle. Actually got the international version of the text and it worked just fine. You just have to be "smart" when you reference the book. So if you don't feel like paying $$$, check out the international version.

I'd second mtsteelhorse on those and add PubMed, which is the NIH repository for "peer-reviewed primary research reports in the life sciences" and GoggleScholar. You mostly can't access the full text on anything you find using either of those but I've had good luck finding the full text of many articles referenced in various search engines on the OU ALICE on-line library. I agree again with mtsteelhorse that searching directly in the OU library doesn't often yield much.

do you know if they charge more for international students? I'm still doing my RN and will graduate in May but I want to get my BSN as well and I'm an international student so university is pretty expensive.

Thanks

From what I gather it's just 1 set price.

just subscribing out of curiosity. thanks to all of u for sharing ur personal experiences.

ah! how i never found this thread I don't know. maybe i was looking up pointless information or trying to follow shady directions for 325~ugh. I actually thought the grades were easy, but doing the work was nutso. I just finished it as well. 4 more classes, and I am done!! whew. Good to see others in the class, as im sure we all dont get real social on the replys for school discussion boards, but for grades.

Its a really easy online program, and so far its been a great program. A few shady directions for this or that paper, etc, but nothing different than most other in person programs. Good luck RNs! light is coming at the end of the tunnel

Hear from anyone that has taken 405?? I heard its hard. Oh boy.

Has anyone taken Intro into the Arts? I was going to take Growth & Development at a local college but it is full. I am taking this along with 1 nursing class per 5 weeks. If anyone can give me any info on this class I would appreciate it. Is it writing intensive? What kind of assignments can I expect? Thanks!

This thread has been an awesome resource for me as well. Quick question, has anyone taking Intro to Music Therapy during the winter intersession? I need to take 6 elective credits to graduate and I'm looking for a course that is an easy "A".
