Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.
I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.
As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.
As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

Not sure if we're in the same section but here is the list of topics for mine:
QuoteYour teaching plan should focus on one of the following topics:
- Recommended portion control with a group of adolescents as part of health class
- Hand washing with a group of four-year-old children in a preschool
- Osteoporosis with a group of 45-year-old women who attend the same church
The assignment is to develop a teaching plan related to one of the topics. There are apparently 3 separate parts to the assignment. In Part 1, the plan needs to address its purpose, goal and objectives in some detail. From what I can gather, the objectives should be focused on the actions needed to achieve the the goal and are very short term. The assignment instructions state that this section needs to be in terms of what the learner (rather than teacher) must do.
The instructions state that Part 2 should focus on topic, audience and setting but then become very confusing. The second para of the instructions says that "for this assignment, you have been provided with the topic and the audience for the teaching plan . . the setting will not be a factor in this teaching plan." I can't seem to find anything that provides the aforementioned "topic and audience" so my guess is that this relates to the topic/audience you chose in Part 1.
Part 3 is a bit more straightforward. We need to specify the "content" of the learning objectives and the method of delivery. So if you're doing something on depression (which is not one of the 3 topics, I'm just using it as an example), I'd guess one of the objectives could be awareness of adverse medication interactions and the content could be a listing of drug types and med names that will be delivered via a PowerPoint presentation at a group session. You would then go on to provide a rationale for why this is important (e. g., what happens when you mix MAOI's with SNRI's) and cite the sources (e. g. Mosby Drug Guide in APA format). You also need to list a "teaching aid" which in this case would be (I think) PowerPoint and provide an explanation of how PP presentations effectively get the point across, again with an APA reference.
That's my first take anyway. I need to look a little harder at the instructions and maybe read some of the Bastable text background matl. My initial impression is that this is waaaaaaaay too much work for a single week's assignment, especially since that week requires 2 discussion board postings and 4 responses. I'm also not sure how you get all this stuff on the template that's provided.
And speaking of discussion postings, that's another perplexing aspect of this module. The second discussion board posting - due on Friday - is based on the written assignment as laid out above, which is ostensibly due on Sunday. Since the post is about the written assignment and we need to do it by Fri that means the written assignment will also need to be complete, or at least mostly complete, by Friday. Seems like a lot of work.
Thanks Chuckster…..That's exactly how mine read, I just get lost in all the lingo. Why can't they be straight and to the point like the other classes I've taken. I NEVER been this confused on any assignment. I'l say it….I HATE THIS CLASS!!
And yeah, how can something be due on Sunday, yet our discussion due on Friday is based on the assignment not due until Sunday. I hardly critique these classes once done, but I will be sure to give FEEDBACK on this one!!!!!

Sorry Lunah, I know better. Temporary insanity - or do not post early in the AM!!

When you are in classes, you don't say "As stated in blah blah blah..." when answering a classmates questions. I'm glad not too many classes require this. Can you believe WHAT number required?
This post summed up exactly what I am feeling about this Class.. I cannot wait for it to be over ugh!
