Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Updated:   Published

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

For those who have taken the PSY 120 (statistics), NUTR 128, and the Business Comp 325J...how hard are they? I want to finish this all up before the transition to semesters takes place and that will require taking three classes I think. If an advisor would call or email me back, I would have known to register for something else this term once I had tested out of NRSE 310.

So, how doable is taking the 2 nursing core classes and one or two other classes? With work, family, etc?

Hi! I just started the rn to bsn program with nrse 300 and 310. I tested out of 310- such a relief! My plan is to take 2 classes at a time and hopefully finish by July 2012. I was wondring if there are any other classes to test out of? Also, how long did it take to get your DARS report? I would like to make sure my calculations are correct. As long as everything transfered (fingers crossed), I should only need 6 more credit hours besides the 50 cr. hrs for nursing courses to graduate.

It was about 2 weeks after I finished my first class, I think. When you go to the Outreach homepage, look, along the left side and look for DARS online.

michellemybell, did you get some info about NOT curving 310 tests? I haven't heard anything yet.

I asked my TA about it and she said it definitely wasn't being curved.

310 is the only one you can test out of.

I typically take 2 classes at a time. SOmetimes it's 2 nursing classes. Other times it's 1 nursing and 1 elective. I took Statistics at OU (was hard, but my instructor gave us our syllabus a week in advance, so I took full advantage of getting ahead). I am currently in bus. communication. Besides Cultural Diversity, it's been one of my FAVORITE classes. The topics are interesting, and I am learning so much about myself through writing. I'm actually glad I took this class. Taking nutrition in Jan.

I have taken two classes each term. Right now I tested out of Appraisal - HURRAH - and have Intervention andI am also taking ENG 101 and Stats through another online college. I have 12 kids, work full time and am doing ok - really though it all depends on you :)

If you can take 4 classess at a time with 12 kids, you rock!:bowingpur

I think I will try a third class next term. The only thing that changes around here is my amount of sleep. I still seem to get to the PTO meetings, scout camping trips, and work. It's only temporary...

well, I am a highly motivated, take-charge kinda person LOL and things like this don't bother me.... like I said, it all depends on you!!

I am way too addicted to my exercise regimen to double up on classes. I realized that this session. Thank heavens I tested out of 310. My plan was to double up but I can't handle the stress. It takes me a long time just to write a discussion board entry, lol! I envy those who can do it all...I'm just not one of 'em.

see, and I DON"T exercise LOL..... just work :)
