Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Updated:   Published

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

Hi. Any Northeast Ohio nursing students take Basic Nutrition (3 creidts) at Cuyahoga Community College and get credit for it at OU???? I know I need nutrition but i'm not 100% sure if it transfers and I wont get my DARS for quite some time. ((newby here)). there's a VERY HELPFUL website that allows me to determine "school equivilancies".... but I just want some more input. Thanks for any help.

Also... any advise for NRSE300???? Seems rather easy so far. I tested out of NRSE 310. I'll be taking 2 classes at a time and praying to balance it all and finish in July 2012.

Copy and past the description with the school name to your advisor - she will let you know - pretty much any regionally accredited college will transfer

I have a few questions for all of you seasoned OU students who always are so helpful at answering my questions :) First, I know somewher someone mentioned taking Music120. What is your overall description of the class? It doesnt require singing does it? Also, I need a humanities. Is there any class besides Phil130 and has anyone taken this? If so, what did you think? And one more, I also need sociology. Anyone have any suggestions about what class to take for that. Thank you in advance.

One more I forgot...Where do I go to see a list of non nursing classes (such as music120) that are offered for winter?

Michelle...They did when I took it. Gave 5 extra points.

I took MUSIC 120...The EASIEST A you will ever get....Look for it in the Academic Outreach area. PM me if you need more detail.

michellemybell, did you get some info about NOT curving 310 tests? I haven't heard anything yet.

MTsteel….For my class they gave the additional points during wk 1. So I would think that if

they were going to curve, they would have done it by now….I'm thinking your group did WAY better than mine, so no need to curve...

Oh well, I passed...but oh so close to an A!!! I'll take what I earned. I don't plan to enroll in 2 classes again...way too much for me.

I understand mtsteel…If you don't have a need to finish at a certain time, there really isn't a need to double up. My motivation came based upon the fact that since starting the program, the tuition has increased. As since I am paying for my education at OU, I don't want to have to deal with another increase. So I figured the quicker I get out, the better…LOL

Well, I'm looking at late next winter/early spring which will just have to do. There is a summer session when I can't take a nursing class. I'll probably take that cultural appreciation course then. The time will fly...it always does. At least when we look back!
