Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Updated:   Published

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

No worries angee..We've all done it. I didn't even know it was against the rules until Lunah told us…Guess I didn't read the TOS well enough :)

I am DEAD IN THE WATER with this 325 assignment...I need some serious motivation folks...

deltaroxxy2-lesson learned, definitely no worries as my worries right now are on the seven assignments I submitted for module 2 of NRS 455:uhoh3: As far as NRS 325, the teaching plan IMO is not too bad. Went back and found mine, I got a 100%, it was 6 pages long...thats including one page for a student teaching aid (coloring sheet), and one page for a take home PEM. After rereading the directions, I'm not sure why I even attached the coloring sheet (germ picture) as I do not think it was required?? My topic was handwashing...obviously preschoolers cannot read at a 5th grade level, so the PEM was a quick bulleted parent reminder for home reinforcement. Total typed explanation (outside the table) was only 2 paragraphs. Discussion board post was fluffffeedd awayyy as most of mine usually are...and that was before I submitted or If I remember correctly EVEN STARTED my teaching plan! I know grading depends on each TA...but hopefully this gives you all an idea of what they, or at least mine, was looking for.

I read your post and noticed you had 7 assignments to turn in for NRSE 455?????

Just wondering what the volume of work looks like for this class... sounds like a lot.

I am working with 3 other nurses who are also taking the 5 week nursing classes at OU. We are currently in NRSE 325 and have NRSE 335, NRSE 405, NRSE 341 and NRSE 455 left as well as 4 electives.

Any one have any thoughts on the above classes?

Thanks!

335 (Legal and Ethical) is pretty interesting. Assignments not bad. Typically stuff that you've had in the other classes. I found research to be a bit boring, but that's NOT my area of interest. I do work with a few research RNs, so I would just ask them a GAZILLION questions whenever confused. Need stats before or with that class (I HAVE NO IDEA WHY). Community was a lot of busy work, but I really did learn a lot about what my community has to offer. My TA was a bit of a stickler when it came to grading, so I busted my butt to get an A in that class.

I still have left to take Gerontology and Excellence. And like you when I say 7 assignments for mod 2, I was like

I just about spit my teeth out when I read that! Holy Moly! Glad to hear that Ethics isn't too bad of a class - still have to wonder about gerontology and business com. Deltaroxxy2 - what books are required for F's business comm class - looked at the bookstore, and it is a bundle of books for an un-**^&^ believable price? Amazon is my friend....LOL. LOVE used books!!

I'm in P's business class. DO NOT GET THE BUNDLE. It's a RIP OFF. The ONLY thing needed is the book which I got from India. Yes, I took Chucksters advice and went the international angle on this book. Bought from a reputable seller that GUARANTEED the book would be EXACTLY THE SAME as the USA version or your $$$ back. The ONLY difference not all of the authors are included, so you just have to be smart (cough cough) when you are referencing. And for a whopping $20, I am happy.

The book from my current class also comes from India for a whopping $20. And I think the cheapiest I saw it was $70+

Thanks for the reply. Glad to hear ethics isn't too bad and interesting.

Gerontology wasn't too bad, a paper and discussion board due each week, it was just boring!

Has anyone taken any electives through Sinclair? I am planning on doing this starting their Winter term.

IMO Ethics was one of the easiest of all the NRS classes...I ended with a perfect score:D Community wasn't hard but I'm guessing deltaroxxy and I had the same TA because I was very very unhappy with grading style:down:. Nrs 455 is alot of busy work, this week 3 discussion boards, 6 responses, lots of work regarding outside videos and websites.

Thanks for the info angeecarmen! I am trying to finish before the semester switch next fall and will be taking a nursing class with an elective from November until August. Just a little nervous about the volume of work.
