Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.
I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.
As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.
As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.
Hello there,
I am currently taking NRSE 300 and I can start registering for my classes tomorrow. I am already dissappointed that I cannot take the music class I wanted during the winter intersession, but then I also realized that all the nursing classes are ten week classes. I was under the impression they all are five week courses. Am I looking in the wrong spot???? I am just using the my Ohio link and then class search. I need help from one of you "seasoned" Bobcats!!!

The nursing classes are 5wks in length...Most of the electives are 10wks..Music and Stats are 5wks. Come Fall the 10wk classes will be 15wks. I "think" the 5wk classes will remain 5wks.
Ok, just found my five-week coorifices that I need. Thank you for the input.
Yeah you need stats with or before research. It's been my hardest class. I was beyond confused. Was a point away from an A. So you can be totally confused and still pull an A or B. I think they curve majorly
I'm debating on taking the five week online stats coorifice, haven't had a math class in over three years and am just nervous about it. You sound like it is not too bad?? Any instructors recommended over others?

I hadn't had 1 in over 10 years...We can't post instructor names on here. However I can tell you that I had instructor "L" and he was great. Gave the class the syllabus about a week in advance, so you really had an opportunity to get ahead. By the time the class started, I had already completed several modules. I think staying AHEAD is the best way to tackle this class.
The confusing part (besides the directions!) is just how lengthy is this supposed to be? Ideas anyone? I feel like I may be way off base.
What exactly are you referring to? The DB posts or the assignment? DB post1 is to be 2 paragraphs, DB post2 at least 2 paragraphs but no more than 4. If you are referring to the teaching plan, no set length was given, but mine was a total of 6 pages which included the filled out table, typed rationales, references, and PEMs. Hope that helps.
I just read through this entire thread. Holy cow, that was a lot to take in:yawn:
I think I am going to apply to this program. I had originally researched schools about a year ago, but then ended up having to hold off. I had started my app through Suny Delhi back then, but put it on hold. I reactivated it, but was denied admission to the program. Come to find out, it is because they require a C+ (75 up), and my school graded A B C. My C is actually atleast a 76. But I am having trouble getting someone from my old school to call me back who can actually take care of this for me. But in re-researching things, not entirely sure why I went with this program. They are $240 a credit hour, and require clinicals. I think it was because Chem wasn't required.
Anyways, I know I still have a few pre-reqs that I need. I never completed Algebra, Chemistry, statistics, or any kind of speech or oral communication class. Although I did have both A&P 1&2, nutrition, as long as it would transfer in, as well as Biology and microbiology. As well as Sociology, both general psych and developmental psych.
I'm thinking maybe if I apply now, enroll at a local community college and take Algebra at least, and maybe any other general ed class I see I may need after I do a better review of their requirements. Maybe speech if it's required. I don't think I could handle Algebra and Chem together. I'm horrible at math. Then shoot for a June start date? Does that sound doable?
Any words of wisdom appreciated!

welcome, Simply Complicated! I applied two months ago for the winter session @ OU and awaiting response. And I too applied to suny delhi and was accepted but leaning greatly towards OU. One of my biggest turnoffs besides the price is the amount of clinical hrs needed. I am married with a five month old and a full time job as a trauma nurse. So needless to say I want to get through this bsn as quickly and painless as possible. So for me I don't think suny delhi is going to work. I was interested in them because they have fewer general ed requirements than OU. And based on my transcript evaluation, I would only need to take the 12 or so classes (correct me if i'm wrong) needed to complete my degree. They dont even ask for a nutrition course which I now need with OU. With that said I can understand why at first glance Delhi seemed like a good idea. So why OU you ask? Simple: NO CLINICALS and plus they're just more appealing to me and thanks to Chuckster and others more popular and appealing (and then some). Enough about me, in regards your situation, you are definitely on the right track. I took stats at a community college and remember it being a challenging course. If you can, try to get that out of the way. If you decide to take any other classes elsewhere remember that at least 48 credit hours must be taken at OU in order to graduate. Keep in touch and good luck! Oh, I took oral communication as well but I'm not sure if it's counted for anything. I'll let you know when I get my DARS report.
Hi SunnyD and Simply Complicated i am also in the process. After reading this thread i decided on OU,I applied about a week ago and requested my transcript so i hope they will receive it soon.I just pray i don't have such a long wait in order to hear from admission (keeping my fingers crossed,Hope for the best but expect the worst.I am hoping i will start in the spring

I must say that I am really disliking Nrse 325!! For being an online course for Rn's who work this weeks course work appears to be a bit jam packed. As if it were not enough to complete just a discussion and a project....hey lets just roll out 2 discussions plus a lengthy project. Not a smart move in my opinion! Grrrr
