Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.
I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.
As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.
As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.
I met with a representative from OU today. There was a higher education fair at my hospital today. The rep made it seem like as long as you had a 3.0 gpa and had a nursing license, you were automatically accepted into the program but Im sure thats not the case.
I didn't see anywhere about them requiring a 3.0 actually.
So I'm not sure what to do. I've been trying to review the tier's they have posted, and I'm afraid I'm going to have a ton of extra classes. I don't have their fine art's or cross cultural requirements, and not sure what else. In addition to needing the junior level english, Algebra, and Chem.
I'm just afraid to start, find out I need a bunch and then it would have been cheaper to do a different school that even though it's a little higher per hour, in the long run is cheaper. Plus the time for those extra courses.
But at the same time, I'm not sure I want to do clinicals. Suny is only 40, so I could handle that. BUT.. we may move out of state, so trying to set that up in a new area could be a pain.
This is such a pain trying to decide what to do:uhoh3:

Don't worry Simply Complicated....I have an associate degree in nursing and still needed 99 credits....about 22-24 classes including chemistry, stats, and I must retake micro!!! I am in far worse shape than anybody else on here but they are very encouraging and supportive!! I finished 300 and am currently in 310 health appraisal...which I like a lot. I spoke to several universities in a classroom setting and, although they required a few less credits, it would take me just as long to get the BSN. Plus, the classes were at least $1500.00 each. So here I am at Ohio!

Are all the extra classes you have to take full semesters? I just left another message at my old nursing school and emailed also to try and take care of this grading thing. SUNY is only 40 clinical hours which isn't horrible. I'm going to try and sit down and sort through a little more. Compare some of the more expensive ones and see if I need less classes. I won't go over like $240 a credit hour though. See what comes out cheapest and shortest in the long run. I'm not to worried about having to do Chem and stats and all, because I am wanting to do my psych NP. So I'm sure I will need them regardless. It's all the extra general ed I'm worried about.
That just sounds crazy you have to do so many extra classes. Did you have a lot that didn't transfer?

They did take everything I had except micro. So.....I have the 12 nursing classes plus the electives and chemistry(didn't have) and micro (got a "D" too many years ago to accept). Then the advisor said I needed just a "few more credits" after that. I don't know how many weeks the electives are to be honest. I am just plugging away at it. I have not ruled out a classroom setting completely because the 5 week thing can get busy. I plan to just keep going and see what happens...after all...it's affordable at OU! No matter how I do it the program will take me a while.

I think I need to go over my classes a bit better than I did last night. Take a better look and see. My job does do tuition reimbursement. My problem with that is we planned on moving out of state, and I wasn't sure I wanted to give a year from my last reimbursement which is required. But if it will pay for my schooling, I may just suck it up and stay.
Are you just doing 5 week nursing classes right now? Or are some of the others you are working on 5 weeks?
The music one people were talking about, that was a 5 week class?
OK, thank you for being so patient with me guys. I'm just trying to figure this out the best I can, before I make the jump and apply. I need to know that this is the program I want to go with so I can get on the right track. If anyone has the time to take a look at this and see what you think as far as meeting the requirements, I would be so so grateful.
Here's a link you can take a look at if you need of the tiers http://www.catalogs.ohio.edu/content.php?catoid=19&navoid=960#gen_ed_reqs
So for the general education I have
Writing and Rhetoric- covered with Freshman Comp I
Microbiology- covered
General Psych-covered
Intro to Sociology- covered
A&P 1&2 -covered
Intro to Nutrition- covered with Essentials of Nutrition and diet- I would think
Leaves me with Chemistry for this.
Tier 2
Applied Science and Mathematics - Chemistry will cover this. Also statistics I think?
Cross Cultural perspectives - Not sure I have this.
Fine Arts- Music- 5 week class
Humanities and literature - I have mythology, intro to humanities, and 20th Century humanites.
Natural Sciences- covered with Intro to Biology
Social Sciences- met with Psych and Sociology
This still leaves me with Government, Freshman Comp 2, Critical thinking and Ethics, and if any of the 3 humanities I have will cover anything else?
If I'm figuring this right, then that only leaves me with Algebra, Chem, statistics, and a Junior level writing course. Not sure if it gives me the full credits or not though. But I would think it would. If that is the case, than this is actually pretty doable. I could do the junior level writing, and Algebra in January, just go to a university instead of CC. That would pretty much just leave me with Chem to do, and do statistics as part of the program as others have done.
Thoughts?

Wow...I am impressed that you read this entire thread. We are definitely a chatty bunch :) Welcome to our virtual world. Hopefully you will find it as helpful as I have. I started OU in Jan 2011, and I will be done next April. I already have a BS in Biochemistry, so the only additional classes I needed to take at OU were stats, nutrition, jun english, and art. The nursing classes are time consuming, but definitely doable with another course. Just have to have good time management, or choose to be sleep deprived (cough cough)....Since you aren ot planning until starting in June, I would try to crank out as many prereq classes as you can prior to starting. Good luck in your decision process!!!
