Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.
I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.
As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.
As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.
Looks like I actually benefit from one of the combos. I can take NRSE 4580 in the Fall 2 semester instead of having to do both NRSE 416 and 445. Gets me done one session sooner than before the change. With any luck, even at one course each session and having to sit out one session because there's nothing I can take, I will finish by the end of 2012.
Are you going to try for admission to the FNP program for January of 2013?
If you follow the teaching tips in the announcement for this week it provides steps for determining which inheritance pattern applies to each pedigree. I felt overwhelmed at first glance but it's not as bad as it first appears. Read and re-read all the material and visit the recommended website. This is definitely a module you can over think. I don't think that is the expectation.
I would be interested in knowing about this as well. Is it a 5 week class? The nursing dept should be able to tell us if that's the "new" cross cultural perspective course.
I called the school to confirm this class is the new cross cultural perspective course and can be taken instead of Modern Asia. Because the class is new, the person I talked to could not give me any further information.
I would like to but it will depend on a couple of things. Will just have to wait and see.And you?
That is the current plan anyway! On to your next post .... what kind of inheritence articles are you looking for? I will look for you after I get back from voting. VOTE today everyone!!!:igtsyt:
The biggest gripes that I've had are about how long the admission and evaluation process takes - if you look back in in thread, you will see that these are two topics that I and a host of others have commented extensively about here on AN. Though there's much to complain about, I think that overall, the OU program is a good choice. In my case, as well as that for a number of us who applied early in 2011, most of the problem seemed to centered around a new computer system that OU put in place. Hopefully that's resolved but you can't go wrong if you just assume things are going to take much longer than you first thought.Good luck in the program.
Yeah, I had read about your problems in this thread, and also the trouble you had with Arlington. (I read through a bunch of threads doing research.) I'm going to go ahead and do the application this week. I may go ahead an register for Spring start. I'm debating on what to do with Algebra and Chemistry. I can't decide if I should do just Algebra so I can focus on it, and try to get a good grade. One of the nurses I work with is great in Math, and said she would tutor me. As well as my cousin who majored and minored in Chem and Math. He's going to med school. He's out of state, but can help me over skype and stuff. Or with the help, I can go ahead and do both Chem and Algebra together and get them done.
But as you said, I can always delay me start if I need to. I'll just have to see. With any luck the process is slower and I can get my DAR a little quicker than you guys though.

You are correct, I had originally registered for the Asia course because that is all that was listed and becasue prior to Winter session that was the only cross cultural class we were offered. However, I talked to someone a few weeks ago and they said a new class was going to be offered for Winter class (the Fashion course) but that it wasnt up yet. Rather than wait, I registered for the Asia course as this is one of 2 courses I need to graduate just in case the fashion one never made its way onto the list. Well they finally put it up...its only 5 weeks as compared to Asia's 10 weeks...AND seems way more interesting to me!! So I dropped the Asia course...and registered for the Fashion one...now If only they offered a 5 week Junior Comp. class:rolleyes:
BTW...they are offering the fashion course both sessions...but both sessions are filling up fast...so If any of you are planning on registering for it...make sure to do so ASAP!
