Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.
I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.
As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.
As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.
Just wanted to say thank you to you guys for the advice and help. I have decided to go ahead and apply for sure. I did a bit more research on some schools, the clinicals and classes I would need through SUNY if I decided to deal with that whole mess. Sounds like this is the best program for me. So with any luck I can knock out Algebra and Chemistry starting January, and start the OU program in June.Question though. Some of you guys got bumped to start later than you originally applied for right? Do you think it would be smarter for me to apply to the program starting before the one I initially want? That way if I do get bumped, it's not a huge deal.
I think you should apply for the first spring session if not you will have to wait until the fall semester in august because they have a 300 class (spring session 1). Then the next 300 which becomes (4510) is not until august and i believe this is the nursing course which must be taken first. I am in a similar situation as you are so i applied for the spring,i just don't want to wait until august to begin

Good point. I'm good with doing it anyways. I am definitely going to go ahead and do College Algebra though Straighterline, because I can transcribe it to Fort Hayes State University, so there will be no problems later when I apply for an NP program. Statistics is questionable if it will go through Fort Hayes. But either way that allows me free to start OU in the spring. I'm applying tomorrow.
You already applied and had your transcripts sent?
This will assist in choosing a start time.Keep in mind 300 has to be taken first

I applied about a week and a half ago. after finding and reading through this thread was convinced (lol) i also went to my school and had my transcript sent so i am now waiting and hoping i have a short and smooth application process.
You and me both. That will be great if we can start together! I wouldn't mind starting out with someone here.:) Luckily as of right now, I only have one school for transcripts and it is an easy online request for them.

If you are interested, do a search on here for accredited online classes. There are some that are accelerated and/or self paced so you can finish faster. I came across a few that were pretty cheap, and would finish faster than a full semester at a CC. These were accredited as well.
I checked into my local CC, and it's $150 a credit hour, not including fees. Also, as I would be non matriculated I can not use any financial aid even though I have it available. So for me, it's the same price if not cheaper to take all the classes I can from online sources, and not have to worry about making it to class. It's hard for me, because right now I work 3-11 pm 3 days a week. But we will be switching to 12 hour shifts, and I will be on nights. Works great for school as I can do my homework at work since I work psych, and there is frequently hours where the patients are all asleep. But it puts me in a bind for classes, trying to figure out which time to take classes. Add in a 2 year old, making it to class is not so easy.
With any luck our admission process is much easier than those in this thread who preceded us.
MO2RN, check out this link. They have an 8 week online intro to nutrition, at $214 a credit hour I think it was. They are fully accredited, and classes start all the time. I am looking into this for my math, even if I do it over a longer period.

If you follow the teaching tips in the announcement for this week it provides steps for determining which inheritance pattern applies to each pedigree. I felt overwhelmed at first glance but it's not as bad as it first appears. Read and re-read all the material and visit the recommended website. This is definitely a module you can over think. I don't think that is the expectation.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I was sooo lost. I will go over the announcements and see what I can decipher.. Guys thanks for being so helpful in this forum:heartbeat

Has anyone used straighterline.com to complete any of their classes? I've done some reading on it, seems like quite a few people from here have used them. OU accepts ACE credits per their website. Also, there are some brick and mortar schools that you can transcribe the transcripts to for Algebra and stats, so that it looks like it comes from that school.
You can do Chem on there as well, but not sure if I can get actual credits rather than ACE for that. I would worry about the masters program for that.
