Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.
I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.
As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.
As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.
Hey thanks for the info. Any test? And I'll be taking the 2nd half of it with gerontology. I am wrapping up business comm now. LOVE that class. I learned so much about myself from the writings. You're not alone. They both don't fit the Mendelian's Pattern of Inheritance. Which would make them non traditional. My probably is how do I not make both responses for part 2 not sound the same. And part 3 is also confusing b/c what does sperm meeting ovum and extra DNA have to do w/the 2 pedigrees?
Yes there were two exams, 2 hours long, which you had to have proctored. Also, I have found a copy of the syllabus, check your inbox.
I have no clue what sperm meets ovum has to do with the overall picture of non-traditional inheritance. The primary focus of the assignment is in understanding the basic inheritance patterns for part 2, and non-traditional, genetic anticipation for part 3. For the 2 patterns that are non-traditional my answers were a bit redundant.
Thanks for simplifying. I will look it over again with this in mind.
If we cite the basic patterns of inheritance found in our Ohio University in our explanation, how do we reference it?? Especially the retrieved from part?TIA
I assumed that citations and references were not required for Pt 2 since a) the information needed to answer was in the module instructions and b) the instructions do not state they're required. Not sure about Pt 3 which requires us to read some outside material. Again, the instructions make no mention of citations/references.
So I'm confused about this but the bottom line is that citations and references couldn't hurt. I just wish the instructions were a bit clearer, not just for this module but for all of them in this course.

Chuckster...My TA seems to be a bit DIFFERENT from the others. Not only does pt 2 need to have at least 2 references, but assignment #3 needs to be done on a new documents w/heading, cover pages and at least 2-3 referenced paragraphs....
I $%@* HATE THIS CLASS!!!!

I'll have to re-read our instructions but it looks like we have the same requirement for Pt 3 but not Pt 2. It really makes no sense to have cover and reference pages for a 3 paragraph document.
I'm with you on that last statement.
Relative to the non-traditional inheritance assignment that requires us to fill out, but not turn in, a four-generation pedigree, is it just me or is there an error on the chart (or in the instructions) relating to the offspring of the union between Paula and Bob?
There are two places that reference a daughter for Bob and Paula. When I build the chart however, the only offspring for those two seems to be a boy. While I guess it's possible that Bob and Paula heard that Johnny Cash song and were inspired to cal their son "Cathy" that seems unlikely (that they named him "Cathy", not that they may have heard "A Boy Named Sue").
I realize that we don't have to turn the pedigree in, so this may not matter (I haven't completed this assignment yet so don't know if that part of the chart turns out to be important or not). It's maddening though.
Has anyone else seen this or have I mad a mistake somewhere?

chuckster you are not crazy the ta is.
the ta clarified the following in her announcement:
1. complete assignment 3: the nontraditional inheritance.
read the article: new genetics discovery: trinucleotide repeat expansion (available in alden library electronic reserve).
it is not necessary to complete the pedigree (you do not turn in the pedigree), focus on answering the below questions, you can answer these questions without completing the pedigree. there are several errors in the explanation - it lists debbie as a twin and she is not a twin and another error and cathy is listed as a male on the form.

Exactly!! I am so happy to know that I am not crazy. I was wondering the same thing. You are right the articles have nothing to do with it. I would probably combine both in one to two paragraphs (as she requires).
This has been the longest 5 weeks. The instructions in this class has been deplorable.
