Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.
I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.
As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.
As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.
I think everyone hopes to be finished before the switch...not sure how thats going to go but it seems like its only going to be another headache and worry added to everyones plate. Not to brag...but I am soo glad I will be beyond done before then:yeah:In regards to the volume of work, I guess it all depends on an individual's circumstances as to whether or not it is doable...works full or part time...children...family...other commitments...how dedicated one is...etc. After these past weeks, I don't think I could nor would want to take NRS 455 with an elective. If Music is an elective you still need, I would save that class for then. I hear it is an easy A!
I agree w/you on your statement about whether or not a class load is doable. And I can attest to the fact that MUSIC is a definite Easy A.
Since the Health related Jr. Comp class is already full for winter registration....GRRR...any thoughts on who to take for 325J/Business Communication? Went over the syllabus for (moderator edit of name) and it looks a bit Scary! Couldn't find a full one for Penrod, but the mini doesn't look too bad.
The section 16251 for Business Comp is still open for registration. The only class I registered for that is closed is Nutrition.

The Jr. Comp class I wanted to register for was HLTH 370J -WRITING FOR HLTH SCIENCE but by the time I found it of course it was closed! I was hoping that NRSE 370J would be ready for winter registration but was told that it is not. I was just looking to take something Health related....makes more sense to me being that we are in a Nursing program! But Since Jr. comp is one of the last classes I need...looks like Im stuck with the Business class. I had to pass on the class you registered for...I looked over that professor's syllabus and was a little worried I opted for the other professor offering that class. As for stats, I am pretty sure it is a prereq to NRSE 405...and I was told 455 needed to be the last nursing course taken. So stats has to be done before Critique or maybe with, then 455 last. Correct me if Im wrong, but I know that is the order I had to follow. However, if you are allowed to take Stats and 455 together...be prepared to work your @$% off!! For me, stats was like learning a different language...ended up passing with an A but I have NO clue how as it made know sense to me whatsoever!
I am finishing up after the quarter to semester change - will have 2 classes to take - research and 455. Looking at the new schedule - research becomes Evidence Based Practice. I just had to look ahead and make sure it was going to be offered at that time. That was my only worry .. . I will finish in November and hopefully start the FNP program in January.
How bad is the statistics class? I put it off years ago when I was sitting in classrooms. Now, I wish I hadn't. I was told by the academic advisor I can take it with NRSE 455. After seeing there are 7 assignments this week in there above, maybe I will rethink that?!
Yeah you need stats with or before research. It's been my hardest class. I was beyond confused. Was a point away from an A. So you can be totally confused and still pull an A or B. I think they curve majorly

It does make more sense to take a health related class to me as well. But, we have no choice. What is the class number you registered for? I may take it insead...Since it will be my fourth class, I need little stress.
My advisor does not really seem to know what is going on. I just placed a call and left a message. I would hate to get a plan laid out, get halfway through the classes and have them tell me I have to drop something.
Ok this module 3 (NRSE 325) is kicking my ***. I feel like I need an interpreter for the instructions and discussion questions... Can someone help interpret this statement for me and/or direct me to the correct section of the text... "Into what category of health promotion/disease prevention would your lesson fit? Use categories from week three."
I can't figure out what this refers to is it the three perspectives of learning (ie affective, cognitive, behavioral)?

Just checked and the business comm. class I registered for is already full.

Went back and looked at my DB for that class, and all thats being asked is whether the topic was health promotion or disease prevention. Not sure why it is/was worded like that?? Most people said both (promotion and prevention) then gave a brief description as to why.
I interpret it to mean health promotion/prevention: either primary, secondary or tertiary prevention. It is NOT from Mod 3 but from the Pender readings in Mod 1. Clear as mud, ain't it!?!?! I don't know about you but I'm looking forward to the end of this class. The instructions made this assignment exceedingly confusing. I feel your pain!
