I just wanted to start a post for all of those OCC students who are waiting to get into the ADN program (regular or accelerated) in 2010. There are only 2 more months until the acceptance letters will be mailed out. Let's keep in touch and keep each other updated!
:hpygrp:
Okay florisgirl.
Does anyone here know someone with a 4.0? I think its just a matter of time before that is the cutoff. Enrollment is close to an all time high and it seems like most everyone in my A&P class is going to apply.
I have a friend who applied with a 3.6 and is well convinced she wont get in this year.
Anne,
I got a 4.0 and applied this year. I worked extremely hard for it as well. I think eventually the gpa will be higher every year coming up. You just never know who is retaking classes or decides to pursue another career path. I just hope they have the accelerated this year so 60 more spots open up for people.
I remember the info session telling us that the GPA will continue to go up each year. So it will soon get to the point where a 4.0 is all they will accept. In that case they will have to find another way to accept students. I was so lucky to find this school. I went to LCC before, and their program is ridiculous!!!!!! It is all based on a point system. (so many points for living in lansing, taking upper division math classes, for your GPA, experience in the medical field, shadowing someone, volunteer work, etc...) I had a 4.0, and all extra points besides experience (because you cant get a job in the medical field barely without experience, but you cant get the experience) and living in Lansing. I tried for 2 years and couldnt get in at all with a 4.0, figured it up and people with ALL the same points as me besides living in Lansing and GPA, they were letting people into the program who had a 2.0 as long as they lived in Lansing before me with a 4.0 cause I live out of district....it is such a ridiculous policy!!! Half of those people probably fail out anyways!!!! Plus we would get screwed in 2 areas, deducted for those points cause of where we live, plus paying extra for tuition based on out of district student. (also they only accept 75 students a year) I hope for future applicants they do not choose to do something like that! Just glad that I found this program :yeah:Does anyone else feel like they will have an anxiety attack if we dont get these letters VERY soon??? Keep worrying that I figured my GPA incorrectly, and instead of a 3.89 I have like a 3.0!!!!!
Ok...so my counselor contacted me about one of the classes I took that is needed for nursing. I found out that the UNOFFICIAL cut off is about a 3.85 if they do not do the acclerated program and about a 3.76 (the hundreths place may be different) if they decide to do the accelerated program. I currently have about a 3.73. I am nervous as heck! I have already prepared myself for the rejection letter. I can't believe that my GPA may not be high enough. I thought I had done pretty good
i went to the advisor for my final checklist before applying...She told me that last year the cut off for traditional was 3.57 and anything close to this is good. The year before was also the same...This year it has not been decided yet. As the the letters are to be mailed... So let's see.
Good Luck all...:)
Mocha and Moe...thanks for the insider info!! :-) I'll be applying for the 2011 program in December, so now I'm trying to schedule the prereqs I need before the deadline. I'm torn as to whether or not I should retake an english class that I got a B in (years ago!). With 10 As and 1 B, that'd make my GPA what, like a 3.9something? Should I retake the class and go for the 4.0? When the time comes I'd really like to get into the accelerated if it's available. I really don't want to retake it unless I absolutely have to--would rather focus my attention on a&P and Micro! What do you all think?
And good luck to all of you that are waiting for letters!!

Hi all!
I called the Nursing Dept at HL today and was able to extricate a some information.
First, the letters will probably be a few days late. They are waiting on a final decision regarding the grant for the accelerated program. This hasn't been received yet. She told me the Dean of Nursing was "waiting with baited breath" to hear back. I was also told that the last 2 years have been exactly the same; funding came through at the last minute.
She told me also that if the initial acceptance letter does not include any information about the accelerated program, then that does not mean it won't be offerred. It simply means they didn't hear back in time and didn't want to delay notifying all of us any further.
Second, I heard this from a prospective STUDENT, not a college employee; he claims he managed to get the cut-off GPA out of the Nursing Dept and that it was 3.61. Again, I have no clue if he is full of "you know what", but I know I always like to hear what people are saying, though I always take it with a grain of salt.
I am dying to know about the accelerated program. I am nervous now because I have one stupid B from freshman Government. I hope a 3.9 will make it this time!
Best of luck to all of you! Sounds like we will know by this time next week.
