OCC - 2009 applicants / 2010 ADN prospective students

Published

I just wanted to start a post for all of those OCC students who are waiting to get into the ADN program (regular or accelerated) in 2010. There are only 2 more months until the acceptance letters will be mailed out. Let's keep in touch and keep each other updated!

:hpygrp:

Thanks for the advice. If I get in I plan on taking pharm in the summer as well as medical terminology. In 1410, is reach for an a something in that particular class?

Specializes in Emergency.

Don't overload yourself ms ashley... It's not that important. Focus on A&P.

Floris-" Reach for an a" is x-tra credit in 1410, its an online program.... you'll get the info when you start 1410. It is very helpful.

Hello, I am a second year OCC RN student, I graduate in May :yeah::yeah:, I just wanted to say good luck to everyone. When you get in the program you will feel like you are on an emotional roller coaster ride. This program is very challenging and time comsuming but it is very doable. The first year I worked full-time, I have three kids and a husband and I was still able to pass all my classes. The second year I went part-time just because I wanted to spend more time with my kids. Just know that you wont have much of a social life while your in the program but it we be well worth it.

Alright...the countdown begins. March 15th is only 6 days away...

Called the nursing department yesterday...stalking to see if I could get any info out of them :D Here's what I got... Asked if they have a cutoff GPA yet for 2010-2011 adn program, they said that they do not know until the letters are sent out. Unfortunately they also said the letters will not be sent out until the end of next week or the next, that stinks!!! Even though they told me that, I am still compulsively checking the mail!!! Also, asked about any word on the accelerated program, and they told me that as of last week, it is still in limbo...good enough for me, as long as there is still a chance :) Just wanted to let everyone know what I found out! GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!:yeah: So, all in all, I got nothing from them that we didnt already know!

Also, a quick note on taking Med terminology...I took it at LCC and am sooooooooooo glad that I did! It has helped me sooooo much in every anatomy, physiology, and even micro class that I took...if anyone has not taken it yet, I would suggest taking it over the summer if your not taking pharmacology... Honestly, another option is taking it online through another school, cause then the grade will not matter so much and the stress will not be overwhelming....really really really has helped me a TON!!!!!!

Krisk, what about just buying a book for the class and doing a self -study, do you think that would help?

Krisk, what about just buying a book for the class and doing a self -study, do you think that would help?

Yep, I definitely think that would help...as long as you are actually studying it. In a class you are forced to learn it and test yourself on it. But if you are disciplined enough, that would definitely help a bunch. Like I said, that class is probably the MOST helpful class I have taken. There are websites available online too that will test you on med terminology, so there is a way to help also.

When do all of you find out if you got accepted?

I would be interested to know what the GPA requirments are. I may apply for the LPN first and then bridge later when I can afford it. A friend went and talked to someone in the nursing Dept at Southfield and was told that it was 3.87 for LPN. I wonder if there is any way to confirm this.

wait... are you guys talking about the OCC nursing program for RNs? Id like to know as well what the GPA cut off was.. im waiting for my letter.. lmao

They have not told anyone yet what the GPA cut off was for the RN program this year...I am sure they know but they wont give the info out until we receive the letters...as far as the LPN program, I would not be surprised if the GPA was that high, because they do not accept as many students as the adn program

Specializes in Oncology.

I heard that they probably send out the mail today and we should get it by Monday.

Last year my friend got it on the week after 15th because the 15th fell on sat or sun.

Keep my fingers cross! All friends of mine who are waiting to hear from the school taking med. Term and the GPA range from 3.62 - 3.9

So good luck everyone. Can't wait to have a letter in my hands. Hopefully, it will be a happy one.
