OCC - 2009 applicants / 2010 ADN prospective students

U.S.A. Michigan

I just wanted to start a post for all of those OCC students who are waiting to get into the ADN program (regular or accelerated) in 2010. There are only 2 more months until the acceptance letters will be mailed out. Let's keep in touch and keep each other updated!

:hpygrp:

Thanks for the info. I have been going to school full time and working 20 hours a week for a about a year to finish my prereqs. Getting through prereqs was hard enough so I hope I am somewhat prepared for the nursing program. The wait is killing me though. I just want to know already.

its worse than taking prereqs.... trust me. enjoy the time you have when you can, because it is going to just get harder!! but it is so worth it!! i hope all of you get good news and get those acceptance letters! :D

Hey everyone. Does anyone else get the urge to call up to the school to make sure you're still on the list? lol. I can just see it now...all this waiting and then they will tell me "Ma'am, we dont have an application from you". That would be the worst. I think I'm just anxious tho :o

Yeah. I think that all the time too. Or maybe they just forgot since they've had the applications for soooo long. Gosh I'm anxious too, hurry up OCC!

I'm so happy I stumbled onto this site. It is so nice to know that there are so many people in the same boat as I am. All I can think of is...just one more month until we find out! I'm really hoping they offer the accelerated program, but either way i just WANT TO KNOW - it's killing me. We all bust our butts to do so well in our pre-req classes and then all we can do it wait...and wait...and wait...

Enough griping...Good luck to you all and I hope we all get what we want on March 15!!!

I also am glad I found this page, just curious...does anyone know when they send the letters out? I know it is in march, but anyone have a more accurate answer? Is it around the 15th? The countdown is on!!!

Current OCC student here. Just wanted to comment on a few things in the thread. I've heard from a trusted source that the accelerated program will no longer be offered starting with this years admit. Also, there is an overwhelming amount of applications, therefore the cutoff gpa is much higher than it has been in past years. Yes, like the other student stated the program is difficult and you will not have much of a life for 2 years. You will need a lot of support emotionally and otherwise, but it can be done. Good luck to all, I was in your shoes not too long ago :)

If what the person above me says is true, then that is 60 LESS spots open, and the GPA will be higher. Last year the cut off was a 3.87 for the accelerated program, which gave a lot more spots to those who were on the lower end of the GPA... so i would anticipate on getting at least a 3.7 to guarentee a spot. GREAT LUCK TO EVERYONE! i am checking up on here to see what happens! i was just in your shoes last year and it is the worst feeling having to wait. keep your chin up and be positive!!

Ooooohhh, I really hope your wrong! I have been trying to get into programs at other schools for the last 4 years! Since this is the first school i have found that considers the GPA alone, I figured I would have a better chance! (even if it means driving an hour away!) I have about a 3.89 and knew I was on the edge of getting into the accelerated program, but knew there was a chance they would not offer it. I have gotten my hopes up so much for it I will be so disappointed if they do not offer it. I would rather not have the GPA and not get into it for that reason, than them not offer it and me never know! I would think with the economy so bad and nurses so shorthanded that now would be the essential time to offer it. Then again it is up to the DMC and if they dont need nurses or dont have the money I guess it makes sense! I remember them saying with the initial acceptance letter, they also send something asking if you would like to be in the accelerated program and send that back, right? So if they already know, they will probably go ahead and tell people that with those letters. Sooooo... if they still send those out asking who is interested in it, there will still be a chance I am assuming! Keeping my fingers crossed :)

If they send you a letter stating that you are accepted into the program and there is in fact a response that says you have the choice of Accelerated or not (which it says on all letters, they just go by GPA again and sends you another letter in regards on whether or not you got accepted to the accelerated program... i think but i don't know because i never chose the accelerated) then that means they are offering the accelerated program this year. so i will keep my fingers crossed for you!

Hi all!

I'll be applying at the end of this year for fall 2011. Just one quick thing I'd like to clear up, (though I know it should be okay because they said so at the info session, but I need to hear it again). I'll have Micro left for this fall that I will be taking Sept - Dec 2010 and then applying - the semester always ends a few days after the final application date. This is alright to do isn't it? Applying while you're still taking that last class to get an acceptance letter that next March? I'm sure I've seen a few people do this, and I guess their final grades get sent in immediately after. Will it hurt my chances? Thanks!
