OCC - 2009 applicants / 2010 ADN prospective students
If they send you a letter stating that you are accepted into the program and there is in fact a response that says you have the choice of Accelerated or not (which it says on all letters, they just go by GPA again and sends you another letter in regards on whether or not you got accepted to the accelerated program... i think but i don't know because i never chose the accelerated) then that means they are offering the accelerated program this year. so i will keep my fingers crossed for you!

If what the person above me says is true, then that is 60 LESS spots open, and the GPA will be higher. Last year the cut off was a 3.87 for the accelerated program, which gave a lot more spots to those who were on the lower end of the GPA... so i would anticipate on getting at least a 3.7 to guarentee a spot. GREAT LUCK TO EVERYONE! i am checking up on here to see what happens! i was just in your shoes last year and it is the worst feeling having to wait. keep your chin up and be positive!!

OCC - 2009 applicants / 2010 ADN prospective students
i am in the regular ADN program not accelerated and it is VERY time consuming. I was working 2 12hour shift days a week on top of going to school 4 days a week and i literally had NO LIFE. The program is hard to start off in, but once you get your groove, it is do able! you just cannot get behind! communicate with your teachers, because they are more willing to help you out if you're struggling, and definitely have some friends in class that you can talk to. they will be your new best friends!

Looking for a school.....HELP!!!
Oakland community college is another school that does not have a waiting list, although you have to have high GPA scores to get in right away, otherwise you have to keep retaking your classes to get a higher grade.

That's not too bad of a loss, which is a good thing! As long as you have a amplifier stethescope then maybe you're going to be just fine! The breath sounds and gas sounds may be a little more difficult to hear but like i said before, see if you can try it out for a little while and exchange it for something else if it isn't good for you. for what we have to pay, we should be allowed to try stuff before buying for good, because it is pricey! I did see the littmann 4000 and that is just crazy haha. It is cool though but yes very expensive. you should get it soon to practice so you know you're comfortable using it on patients! I am just so happy they make stethescopes for people like me because without it, i dont know if i'd be able to be a nurse today!! its so relieving and i'm very excited! I hope you find something that works for you and its not too expensive!! :heartbeat

well i have BTE hearing aids so using a regular stethescope with amplifier would be out of the question for me. They do have the kinds where you can wear headphones over your hearing aids and you'll be alble to use your CIC hearing aids while using it. I know it may seem kind of strange, but if it gets the job done it gets the job done! Personally i would probably rather have the headphones since its eaiser for me to just pop it on and not have to wriggle the hearing aid around to hook up the cord to the boot, but i guess that's just something i'll always have to deal with. You should see if you can order one and try it out for a little bit to see if you like it and then buy it in full once you know its the one for you, because sometimes one is better than the other. My stethescope with the cord and boot will not be right for you because you have CIC. but its so exciting to hear that I am not the "only" one out there haha. good luck in your program too!!

MCC - Nursing Students Starting 2009
Hello, I am a new student nurse at OCC and i like to follow up on some schools threads to see how people are doing and how they are getting geared up for school. I came across your thread and was thrilled because I am too hearing impaired and currently work at a hospital as a PCA. I wear hearing aids and have a severe-profound loss without them, needless to say, i am very dependent on them! I bought a stethescope along with new hearing aids (they needed a special boot attached to allow connection) to make it work. I know its so awkward but its two cords that i can attach to my hearing aids which i can then switch my hearing aids to a special setting to hear the heart beat and breath sounds. I can either have it set to where i can hear the heart beats and the background noises around me, or just the stethscope only. Anyways, I am absolutely thrilled to know that i can accomplish the same tasks as everyone else, and who cares if my sethescope looks different than most. I have been using only my left ear to hear the sounds because it is my strongest ear. I have been practicing with them at work a little. (always a plus working at a hospital!) I was born with this hearing loss so i am comfortable about the issues i have, but of course i'm always worried about whether it will affect me. you do need your ears alot, but i am confident i'll pass everything with flying colors. Buying all this equipment that i need was very expensive. ( about $780 for the stethscope itself, and the hearing aids were way more) thankfully it has been a great success so far :-) I looked at the link and it looks like to me you don't have hearing aids so hopefully that will be a good sethescope for you!!

Who is waiting for a letter from OCC?
I currently work as a nursing assistant at a hospital and i've been there for almost 2 years. I am very blessed to have this job since it is going to be easier for me once we start doing clinicals. I even work with OU, OCC, Baker and U of DM nursing students while they do clinicals on my floor. I am so excited to start in the fall! yay!

Who is waiting for a letter from OCC?
I got my letter today and I got in! had a GPA of 3.736 so if you're above that then you definitely got in!! i'm taking the traditional route because I want to take as much time as I can to succeed. Plus I would get sick of driving to Detroit everyday. I am just so relieved and happy! My dad just happened to be home when the mailman came to the door but last year I just went up to the post office as soon as I got my notification card stating that I had a certified mail waiting for me at the post office. they usually ask for your ID. good luck to those who haven't heard yet and congrats to those who got in!!

Who is waiting for a letter from OCC?
Hi, I am also currently waiting for a letter to OCC and I also called the office to find out when it was all happening. So we should be getting a letter no later than thursday. I was told they weren't going to mail it out until Monday, but maybe they were able to do it sooner. I just wished I knew what the GPA cut off was. What are your gpas like? So nervous!
