  1. Just wanted to say congratulations to all who got in:yeah::yeah:. I am a second year student who graduates in May, so just get ready for the ride of your life:yeah::yeah:. You can do it!!!!
  2. Hello, I am a second year OCC RN student, I graduate in May :yeah:, I just wanted to say good luck to everyone. When you get in the program you will feel like you are on an emotional roller coaster ride. This program is very challenging and time comsuming but it is very doable. The first year I worked full-time, I have three kids and a husband and I was still able to pass all my classes. The second year I went part-time just because I wanted to spend more time with my kids. Just know that you wont have much of a social life while your in the program but it we be well worth it.
  3. I will be graduating in May 2010. Like you, I was told that I should not work while in school because it would be too stressful. Personally, I could not afford not to work. The first year of RN school I worked full-time (3- 12hour shifts) as a unit clerk in a hospital, now I work part-time (2 -12 hour shifts) as a nurse-tech. At my school you have to earn a 80% or better. I have been able to maintain my grades with minimal problems. If you could find a part-time or contingent CNA position it could benefit you greatly. For me, the work experience made clinicals easy because I already knew the inner workings of the hospital. Also, it is easier to land an RN position after you graduate if you already have some CNA/PCA/PCT experience. In this ecomony hospitals can be a little picky about who they hire and you need to make yourself more marketable if you can. So I say if you can find a position go for it. BTW...While going to school full-time and working I also have a husband and three kids ages 3,6, and 12. But I also had to work every weekend to for everything in my schedule to fit. In nursing school you have to sacrifice some things. But remember its just temporary!!!
  4. Yes I am a second year student and I will be at St. Joseph in Pontiac on Tue/Wed 7-3. My theory class is Med-Surg 3. Are you in Med-Surg 2 or 3?
  5. I am also in the traditional RN program at Highland Lakes.
  6. Congrats!!!! Do you have a job lined up already?
  7. According to the website the deadline is still Dec. 15 and letters will be mailed no later that March 15th...
  8. The accelerated program has already started this year...I believe it started in May. You apply to the program as usual, those students that are selected for the traditional program can then apply to the accelerated program and they are selected based on GPA. There is not a separate selection process. Hope this helps
  9. I just wanted to say congratulations to everyone who got in..I was in your shoes just a year ago...Get ready for the ride of your life..although the program is tough I really do love it and I hope you will too..I had a ton of questions after I found out I got so if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask..Good Luck to everyone:yeah:
  10. When I started the nursing program in August I was able to get all my vaccinations for free at the health dept. because I was a nursing student. I got my physical done at concentra on greenfield for 35 dollars.
  11. Thanks for the input. I am already accepted for fall 2008 I just didn't know how passing or failing the NET would affect me while I am in the program.
  12. I know at OCC you have to take the MPT to get accepted, but does anybody know if we eventually have to take the NET and if we do when? I was just wondering because I thought read that somewhere.
  13. I was just accepted into the ADN program for fall 2008. I have two children 19months and 4years. I have a really supportive husband, but I also work full-time 12 hour shifts over the weekend. At first I was really excited when I got accepted, but now I am extremely terrified and I am wondering if I will be able to do this. Quitting my job is not an option. A lot of people are telling me that I will not be able to do this. I was just wondering is there anyone out there who has been in my situation and completed the program. I have worked really hard to get a high GPA and get accepted. I just want to know is this a doable situation and how do you get through it.
  14. I took micro without the lab because the one with the lab was all full and I was trying to make the deadline. I later regretted it because when I was trying to apply to other schools (just to keep my options open) most of them required micro with the lab. Fortunately I was accepted into OCCs program. If you plan on getting your BSN I would take it with the lab. Other than Oakland University I do not know how many colleges accepts it.
