  1. Yes! Thanks for posting Paramecium....I plan to head to the bookstore tomorrow, but just ordered a few via Amazon, so I won't have the Lewis text(s) until next week. Looks like most is in the Cherry text though, eh?! Did anyone get their scrubs from somewhere besides the bookstore? Birch Run, etc.? Only a couple more weeks....getting excited and enjoying the rest of the summer! :-)
  2. BLS CPR was $50 at Auburn hills campus. Not sure if they have dates/times available though. Call the EMT office there, they set it up. :-)
  3. Monday afternoon for me :-). Congrats cjbacjba, and thank you for the encouraging post!
  4. If I were you, I would contact the HR department of a medical facility and ask their opinion. I honestly have no idea how rigid hiring practices are in the field. I would think that chances are available for you. Plus, by the time you get through a nursing program, your 9 years left will be less than 5!! :-). Good luck to you and congratulations on getting married.
  5. OCC2012, I think you're in my pharm section....I swear she said we only had to know the practice problems for this test through #15 in Appendix D....not through the IV ones yet... or did I miss something? I think it's going to be a good class! :-)
  6. FYI--I just checked online and my pharm section is finally there under my class schedule. :-) I'm thinking I'd like to try to get in for CPR on April 29. We'll see.... :-)
  7. I'm in the 2p class Mondays! :-)
  8. whosur, which second nclex book did you get? I always hear great things about saunders, so that surprised me! I was able to get both pharm books online for $110...not bad! Morningland/whosur--if you had to generalize, would you say that the first semester you were on campus/at clinicals mostly in the morning or in the afternoon? I have to decide whether to send my kids to morning or afternoon kindergarten (and signup is in 2 weeks!). I know the nursing schedule changes all the time, and we can't request anything....I'm just trying to 'plan' as best I can! Thank you both for all the fantastic insights into what to expect in the program--it is extremely helpful and reassuring. I don't feel like I'm jumping in blindly thanks to you! :-)
  9. If they do the accelerated program, they add those additional spots. The reason they did not offer the accelerated this year was that the DMC is in the process of a merger/buyout with another company. The transition won't happen until June/July which would be too late to start the accelerated program for 2011.
  10. I called the department yesterday and yes, they won't register us until early April. She said to expect a packet with details about orientation, etc. before then. :-) @Mocha - did you get it at the HL or Southfield campus....I want one too lol!
  11. I was wondering the same thing @rivasl. If not by tomorrow, I plan to call the department to find out (also to make sure they received my fax!).
  12. Congratulations everyone!!! It was such a great surprise to get the mail today...wasn't expecting it until next week! I am planning on the Monday afternoon Pharm class.
  13. I'm getting excited to get this letter!!! Guessing the cutoff will be right around there @jenny--but I'll say 3.83 just to put in a guess . Good luck to everyone!
  14. One big thing to consider is where you will be living. How important is it to you to have the 'away at college' experience? It is true that some programs (I know Oakland does anyway) do offer preference to students applying directly from high school. However, you are right that you have several pre-reqs to complete before you will enter any nursing program. Maybe you want to have the 'away at college' experience at Michigan State (sounds like you really want to go there , and meanwhile do as edie10 above suggested and meet/phone with a counselor at each of the schools to get your questions answered and help you make a decision. Also, I would be selling you short if I did not give you advice based on my experience....do check out community colleges at least for your basic general ed requirements. After you decide which university you want to attend the counselor there should be able to tell you which classes will transfer from a community college. #1 they are almost always 'less demanding' than university classes (again, from my experience (went to Wayne State and Grand Valley State)) and #2 they cost a fraction of the tuition. If you decide you want to go to Michigan State, Lansing Community College is very near there :-). No matter which school you choose, as long as you do your best and (most importantly in my opinion) ENJOY what you are doing, you will be successful in wherever your college path takes you. Good luck with your decision!
