Hey,

Yes I think your looking at the right info. If you were to chose and get a single on 26th thats the most expensive option and then it goes down from there.

where are those of you who aren't living in the dorms choosing to live and did you use a service to find an apartment? I live in missouri and really don't want to live in the dorms but am getting nervous about finding a place.

If you send in your housing deposit- you have till July 17th to cancel it if you decide to no living in housing. I'm sifting through Craigslist to find stuff. I live around the area so its easy for me to drop in and see these places before I make a decision to live outside of NYU housing. But living somewhere like in California or Missouri makes it hard - NYU has this service that helps you find housing outside of NYU [ http://www.nyu.edu/housing/offcampus.html ] . Maybe give them a call?

Hi guys! I found out I got in to NYU's 15 month program today. I wasn't expecting it and have already put some money into another school that I was planning on going to in the fall (probably still am - LIU). I pretty much have to decide by tomorrow what I'm doing in order to salvage some refunds.

I really need to find out about my financial aid with NYU - did anyone else have problems accessing their aid status on NYU's website? When i enter my student ID it says it doesn't exist??

This is all very sudden and I don't know if its worth trying to pull off. As someone who lives in NYC already, I can tell you that if you have the time to put in looking for off campus housing, definitely try because if you live with roommates you can definitely save money rather than chucking over 17 grand for a dorm. I live in Brooklyn (a nice area) and spend much less than that a year in rent.

I second that. I live in Manhattan and pay much less for rent.

And Riles, you should try calling the financial aid office, they might be able to help you over the phone. Good luck!

What would you guys consider to be decent rent in the city? because if I calculated it out correctly, living in NYU housing comes out to paying about 1,500/mo for rent. . and I know thats a lot ~ but then again some places are going for that much in the city. Nonetheless, I also know you can find for less .

Hey Riles,

Congrats on your acceptance! I second Kelzy about calling the financial aid office if you need to make a decision soon.

I got my acceptance letter a week ago and was only able to log in to NYUHome yesterday and my financial aid info is still not available yet. I spoke to someone in admissions at the end of last week about it and she said it could be a couple of weeks yet before I receive it. Luckily, I'm not in a hurry for it since I'm going to make it work somehow no matter what, but if you need your financial aid package to make your decision, I'd give them a ring.

I think that rent right now is cheaper than when I was looking, but I worked out a budget for myself and decided that I couldn't pay more than 1,000/month no matter where the apartment was. It was important for me to live in Manhattan, so I spent a long time finding a place and a roommate, etc. I ended up finding a roommate that already had an apartment and just needed someone for the extra bedroom. She actually paid quite a bit of money because she used a broker to find her an apartment, so I was lucky that I found her and didn't have to go through that process. And I'm only paying 1,000 a month for an apartment that is in walking distance to campus.

Anyway, the moral of the story is that you need to work out a budget for yourself and then shop in that price range. Try craigslist and the NYU off campus housing website. The NYU site is good if you're looking for a roommate or someone that has an apartment already.

Hope that helps. :)

How are you guys paying for your rent? Are you guys working while in the program?

Loans, loans, and more loans. There's not a lot of time to work, but I know some people who do. Actually, I'll be working in the fall, so I'm a liar. LOL. So for the first three semesters I'm not working, but I will in my last. If you budget well you can make the loans enough money which is what I've done because I couldn't find a job that works with the class schedule. Also, I figured that I'm going to be in a ton of debt anyway, I might as well just take a little extra money and not have to worry about working. But that's me...

Hello everyone,

Kelzy, Mehr etc,

I feel really guilty about choosing oncampus housing (hopefully 26th). I just sent in the first round of deposits, and I know you can decide by july 17. I just dont think it would be feasible to compete while in california - this stress and hassle of finding a place and making sure it works out seems like a stretch for me, who knows no one really in new york....

what do you guys think? for my situation (no friends/connections, not from or in new york/just starting the program) would you reccommend student housing? I want to meet people and Im hoping that living with other students will ultimately make me happier as i transition....****, im nervous!

thanks all,

Alison

Hey Alison!

I signed up for oncampus housing ( hopefully 26th street) also. I am also from California, therefore, didn't wanna deal with looking for a cheap apartment in school. Hope to see you around !!
