hey there!
i just submitted my application for nyu, fall 2009. it was a pretty lengthy process, which i guess is good because their application is very well rounded. now the waiting starts!
has anyone else applied for fall 2009?? i applied for several other schools but nyu is definitely my #1 choice. i'm so nervous!!!

hello to everyone.
missathena, I feel like you are channeling me. Im also about to send in my deposit and am terrified of going and whether its the right choice for me. It's nice to know Im not the only one...
Im also struggling with the idea of living in student housing. I know theres med students and dental students in 26th street, but its like 17,000 for the year!!! I feel like I could find housing for less but I dont know how hard this would be and of course I want to live with fellow nursing students.
Does anyone know where/what student housing location thery're living? Want to?
I was also accepted to NYU, but I didn't seriously think I would get in! Now, I'm also facing the prospect of the insanely expensive cost of going to NYU for just 15months. I know a bunch of nurses and they all say that where you get your BSN doesn't carry much weight, hospitals just want someone who can practice. I was accepted to another program in VA and the tuition is half of NYU. I think NYU would be an awesome experience but I find it hard to justify paying that much, esp. since I already have loans from undergrad. I really don't want to live in the dorms either....I heard that they don't place you according to program. Lots of thinking to do!!
wobbsross, I'm in the same boat. I just found I'm in, which is great! But I didn't think it would happen honestly so now i'm sitting down seriously & thinking of the crazy price tag. I have 40K in undergrad loans already, and from reading all of the postings i'm looking to tack (minimum) 65-80K more on. PLUS I want do Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner program later on whether it be NYU or elsewhere. it is DEFINITELY something to think about!
i think SUNY Downstate Med Center's program looks awesome, you're looking at about 15K max which is crazy good : ) and it is one semester less, but then it starts next JUNE! my pre-reqs aren't going to be done in time for this year. Everyone says you're going to start making money earlier so do NYU, thats an honor, etc etc. I live in the NY already (2 years now), and am fortunate enough to have insanely cheap rent so thats good but any advice?? would you guys wait and hope for the best for admission to next june's program or do NYU???? ugggggghhhhh i dunno!
i am also currently taking pre-reqs at a community college in nyc and i have to say, the education is just as good if not better in some cases as i got at my state university back home. plus the relieved stress in seeing the tuition bill is nice, and i have actually been paying it myself as i go! NYU on that one, yeah right!!
Help! : )
Amyjay, I agree with you about the community colleges - I have had some great professors in my classes at Citytech in Brooklyn. That's quite a dilemma you are having with picking NYU or waiting. From what I have heard, this year was incredibly competitive and applications for nursing schools are only going to go up because of the recession. I got into NYU, but I got waitlisted at SUNY Stony Brook. There is a chance that you may not get into SUNY Downstate's program, or may be waitlisted. Can you perhaps defer at NYU for 6 months or a year, until you get your SUNY decision?
A bonus for NYU is that once you're in, you can go right on and do your master's if you'd like to, or you can go back when you want. That's a nice option to have. I'm not interested in Psychiatry so I don't know if they have the program you're looking for, but they have the first Holistic nurse practitioner program which I'm interested in doing.
missathena!
Sounds awesome. I cant figure out how to send private messages (its forbidden for me!). I know you have a difficult decision to make, but you cant let the breakup mentality determine where you go. I totally understand though, change of scenery is helpful. From your above post I see that you're also into the holistic program - thats why I applied to NYU and only NYU even though I now feel like i didnt give myself many options.
We should definitely talk - it might be easier to email me directly at [email protected]
Good luck, and keep in touch,
Alison
So out of 4,000+ students, they only picked 150. Wow. Glad I got in.
Are any of you guys deciding to live in housing provided by NYU? I'm confused as to whether I should- If you guys are- where abouts are you picking?! I have to send in my housing deposit soon and need to know whether I should decide to live in housing provided or not. I'd like to ideally be living where other nursing students are - so if you're living on NYU grounds, where did you guys pick?
Any ideas..?
Mehr,
I am struggling with this decision too. The deposit is due pretty soon so I'm tempted to just send it in. I think 26th street is pretty good since its a mixture of grad (med students) and undergrad, although its kind of far from classes and outrageously expensive. Realistically, I dont know how easy finding a place would be if we're not in the city. Good luck, let me know what you decide!

Hey Guys I need a little clarification on pricing + rates for housing!I'm using this link to figure out housing prices: http://www.nyu.edu/housing/payments/rates.html
Us Accelerated BSN students are classified as Undergrads correct? so lets say one of us decides to pick 26th street.. that would cost us about $18k for the year (approx), right?
I'm just curious as to whether I'm looking at the right thing now, because I'm hearing different price ranges. Someone told me around 24K . and I've heard other higher price ranges. Although I know it depends on where you live- the price generally is in the 18K range for majority of housing [non-freshmen housing] .

NYU's website lists different places to look for scholarships. FastWeb is one, I'm not really sure of others. I'm kind of lazy when it comes to that so I'm all about the student loans! :)
Nope, student health insurance is not mandatory. I think you have to have some kind of health insurance, but it doesn't have to be NYU's insurance.
