Yep, I'm in my early 30's, can't wait to start nursing program. Have a 5 yr old who acts like 30. I have house chores and related tasks that pulled me away from focusing during my previous courses. I love Barnes & Noble Bookstore cafe, usually spend hours there figuring out chemistry problems and the likes. Good luck everyone!

Hi All,

So glad to find have found this thread. I am 38 and getting ready to move to Pennsylvania for an Accelerated BSN program that begins in May. I'll graduate when I'm 39. Woohoo!! My husband of 10 years is staying in Oregon while I'm in school, and I'm sad to leave him, but am sure I've made the right decision. It's comforting to know I'm in such good company, what with all you magnificent and talented people chiming in!

If anything, I feel like my age is an asset. Returning to school for my pre-requisites was an awesome experience; I was able to prove to myself that I'm a good student.

It was also reassuring to meet several of the current and incoming students of the BSN program and see that many of them were at least 35 and entering their 2nd or 3rd careers.

Congrats to all!

I turn the big 35 in June! I can't believe it! I have a wonderful and supportive husband and 2 kids - a daughter almost 7 (going on 17) and a son, 3. I am 3 weeks away from finishing my first year in an ADN program in MI. The year flew by! It's been an awesome experience. I have had some down times but have never failed a test and have pulled off B's in 4 courses thus far. Clinicals are the stressful part - I had a horrible time in first rotation due to a CI who was worthless and it made for an intense second rotation in Med/Surg. But I feel somewhat competent anyhow! I am in my psych rotation and will never use the word 'crazy' loosely again. This has been eye-opener; people are so sick and have so few resources. It's a revolving door for the mentally ill and it's not their fault, especially those with schizophrenia. It has changed my outlook. I do not want to pursue mental health as a career but I think it will help tremendously in my career. I am amazed at my fellow students who have have no husband and kids to take care of and who do so well! It's such a sisterhood! I have met lifelong friends and am so proud of myself for having the courage to come back to school and undertake such a huge challenge. But it feels right and I am doing well so I know I can come back second year after a nice summer break and prepare for the final haul. This site has been a life saver; to view other's perspectives and know that it is not impossible.

Good luck to all of you and keep grinding away. The many sacrifices will be well worth it.

I am 40 years old and in my first block of an RN program. When I graduate I will be 42 years old. I was intimidated by my age until I went to the first day of classes only to find that most of the students were not fresh out of highschool and in fact many of them had families and many were older than I.

I would rather be younger, but since I am not, I'll make the best of what I have to work with :)

Today is my birthday, I am now 50, and I will be graduating with my RN in June. It has been a long road and I can't believe we are almost finished. Well, maybe, I am still considering going on for my BSN and who knows after that. I must say there have been days I thought I may have made the wrong decision taking on this adventure; I had no previous background in healthcare, but all and all it has been a great experience. I encourage anyone having doubts to hang in there, you will be so happy you did, I know I am. I haven't done this on my own. I have been blessed to have a supportive husband, children, family, and friends and I could not have pulled this off without them... Oh yes, and many, many, prayers.

Got you all beat I am 51 yo and a grandmother, 3 kids 30, 28, and 27 and I grand baby 2yo, I am in second semester and will graduate in May 2009, God willing, however I started with my science pre-reqs 2 years ago, (had a previous career and associates degree from another school) anyway I love my classmates, most younger but 2 or 3 older, the students treat me like an equal and my age has never been an issue, just once a clinical instructor was reading me the riot act about something or other, this nurse calls me aside to tell me she became a nurse at 49 and not to let it bother me or let her see my cry, I was in the treatment room gathering myself together at that point.

So there are lots of us out there and hoo-ray for us

I am 51 years old and finding this 4th semester the hardest yet. I am a little burned out now and can not wait until graduation in May, if I make it that far. The first thing I am going to do is clean my house after that last class. Then I am going to watch a good movie. Then I am going to begin studying for the NCLEX.:yawn:

I am 40 and due to graduate from ADN program in a matter of weeks (can I get a :thankya:Praise the Lord???). I am married with 4 children (16, 15, 5, and 2, the youngest born during nursing school) and also work 28 hours on the weekend on a Baylor program as an LNA (CNA). Like several others, I worked for almost 2 decades in Corporate America and when I told that my management position was going away and I had 30 days to find another position in the company, my husband and I decided to take this as the "kick in the butt" that I needed to pursue my dream of becoming a nurse. So now here I am. I am not the oldest in my class, although I'm sure I'm top 10! I am very fortunate that my husband has assumed a "Mr Mom" role with only a "little" prodding. He is my biggest fan! I have had many many moments of guilt for the time spent away from my kids (between school and work, I am home only Sunday evenings) but I keep reminding myself that I am doing this for their sake and their futures. Not to mention that I am being a great role model for them, both in terms of being dedicated to your education, but more importantly, for the importance pursuing your dreams.
