Specializes in Home Health.

Hi everyone. I'm 36 and in the last days of my ADN program and very thankful that there is an end in sight. I'm married and have 3 children (6, 4, & 3 yrs old). I also work part-time as a home health nurse and put in around 28 hours a week as billing manager for the home health agency. I think the hardest part of nursing school (this last year) for me is the traveling 2 days a week to hospitals 100+ miles from home for my clinical rotations. But, I have 3 clinical rotations (6 days) and 15 actual class days left and I'm done:yeah:.

...Of course, now I'm debating on getting my BSN or my MSN online. My husband thinks I'm nuts.

Wow! I am old.:uhoh3: I am about to turn 50. I will be that age when I graduate with my BSN! I am the only old student in my class. I am a single mom with threee kids age 25, 10, and 7 with the two little adopted ones being special needs. I strugle with study time. While the others have study parties I am giving breathing treatments and doctor apointments for the kids. It is a balancing act. I hope there are others my age in school!

Well I feel so at home reading this thread. I'm 41 and a first year student in a dual degree of nursing and midwifery that will take me 4 years to complete. I'm so happy that I got into it as they only accepted 20 people for the dual. 18 of the girls are as old as my eldest son at 18yrs.... I was worried that I wouldn't fit in and would be ignored but they are all really lovely girls and include me in their conversations. One classmate told me if I was having trouble understanding a lecture to give her a phone call because she only studied all this last year in highschool.

Besides the 18yr old I also have 2 girls 9 and 6yrs, They are all rapt that mum is going to be a nurse LOL.

I have an oral presentation to give tomorrow morning, so better go get some beauty sleep.

Nice to meet you all.

Hi, We have some things in common. My husband is active Navy (nearing retirement. yippeee!) I have 2 small kids and am taking my pre-reqs as well. I feel old too, but I think we bring alot to the table, especially when clinicals begin. I'm not sure how everything will fit into 24 hours but we'll make it work! Let's hear it for the lod ladies!

Hi all, I'm 38 but I'll be 39 when I start nursing school this fall. I have two girls (10 and 14), married and presently have two part time jobs. I will have to give one of those up though and i'm scared. Our credit card debt presently is pretty high because of taking classes the last few years and also making ends meet...it's scary and now I'll have to give up a job for two years and figure out how to find the money to survive. Fortunately we have excellent credit, so we'll probably just have to take out a loan. I just hope I make enough after graduating to pay it all off...the hospital that I'll be working at only pays $21 to start for new grad RNs...pretty pathetic I know. Anyway, I am thrilled for you all and wish you all the best in your futures. I feel as though this is my calling and I am so excited to get started. :stdnrsrck:

I'm 38 and I'm just starting to take my prereq's before getting into a nursing program. I have two children ages 9 and 5 and they demand my attention. My DH works at least 10-12 hrs a day 5 days a week. He does his best to help but usually I have to keep things on track. Thank God I have my paerents to help with the kids but I still find the stress to be overwhelming at times. I sometimes wonder what the he!! was I thinking trying to go back to school at the age of 38 but I can't quit. I tell my kids all the time don't quit something just because you find it to be difficult, if I were to quit that would make me a hypocrite. Not to mention my DH supported my decision to quit my job so that I could got to school full-time so their is no way that I will quit now. I will just suck it up, do the very best that I can and pray that God helps me when it gets to be too much.

Good Luck to everyone!!!!!:nuke:

I am thrilled to know I am not alone!!! :yeah:

I am a 35 y/o wife and a mommy to a 9 y/o daughter. Balancing my studies and school with family and home obligations can be so overwhelming, but I find a great deal of inspiration in this thread.

Best wishes to everyone!!!!

I have a very similar situation to yours. except one kid and no parental help. i'm 1st semester of a 4 semester program. i'm sooooooooooooo tired. And I'm sitting here typing, waiting for some clean pants and panties to dry in the dryer, because i didn't make time to do proper laundry this weekend, so 0.0% clean anything ! God help us!:nuke:

Hi all!

I am awaiting my letter of acceptance for the RN program at Ivy Tech in Valporaiso, IN. for a fall 08 start.

I just turned 46. I have been a hairdresser, a substitute teacher, a secretary, a Pharmacy tech, and am currently a rural carrier(mailman).

I recall being apprehensive at returning to school when I started the Pharmacy tech program 12 years ago, but going back at 46 didn't phase me at all.

The only negative comments I get are from people who first ask why I bother at my age, then say they always wonder what would have happened if they had gone to .......

Did anyone see the news article about the 95yr old lady who graduated college in the fall of 2007?:nurse:
