For ongoing pain and suffering, loss of future income, and privacy violations among other things. I wonder if she will win?
If nurses contract a disease (in general) because proper protocols were not in place, have you heard of them suing in other cases? Not only for diseases but for injuries?
Newspaper: Nurse who survived Ebola says hospital failed her - San Jose Mercury News
Well, now someone who was on the airplane with Amber Vinson is suing. It was on our local news. The woman was in isolation for 3 weeks. This one is a crock IMO. She needs to take acting lessons.
Who is she suing? Do you have a link?
This whole thing becomes very interesting. Do we have some kind of fundamental right to not be exposed to illnesses to which there is no vaccine? Even if we do not become infected with that illness?
Did she HAVE to be "in isolation," or did she take that action on her own, even though the science behind ebola tells us we are not contagious while we are not symptomatic? Consider the chain of litigation this could all start.
I think I found a link:

That one does sound a wee bit dramatic.
I understand the desire to blame Duncan by saying he lied; however, that really has not been proven. According to later news reports, he lived in an area of Liberia not affected (at that time) by Ebola. The pregnant girl had been taken to a clinic earlier and sent home after being told symptoms were pregnancy related. Later that night, Duncan, who everyone described as a caring person, helped what he believed was a girl sick because of her pregnancy. Even the article you referenced stated Duncan may well not have known she had Ebola.
One can't even believe half the stuff printed in US newspapers, and we're to believe everything Liberia prints (a country, BTW, relying heavily on US assistance)? And everything said by a hospital trying to cover its ass?
If nursing's image is "tainted" by dispelling the notion that we are willing to be martyrs for our jobs, risking our lives with nary a mumblin' word because we are such Angels of Mercy... GOOD.
I'm mixed about this one. While it is Nina's right to sue, the image of nursing will become tainted. She will be seen as a "greedy nurse" because the public is very quick to judge. I agree that something like this is the only way safety measures will be put into place to protect nurses; and it's sad it has to come to this. However, there is always a cost. And if she loses, she won't be the only one to lose.

I'm tired of nurses being portrayed as selfless. We have a right to protect ourselves and be compensated if we are injured at work due to negligence of not having adequate equipment and protections. Unfortunately healthcare is a business and it only responds to the bottom line and a lawsuit is necessary at times to bring about positive changes. I hope her lawsuit will help her and all the rest of us so admin stops making excuses and provides us with adequate equipment to do the job, and not the it's not in the budget excuse!!!

Texas woman suing over Ebola risk - WJBF-TV ABC 6 Augusta-Aiken
The very thought of anyone viewing Nina Pham as a "greedy" nurse, after what this woman has been through, is infuriating to me! This brave nurse contracted Ebola while providing care for her patient. While she fought for her life, the media scrutinized every detail of her life and blamed her for contracting the disease. As nurses, we must stand with Nina Pham and Amber Vinson! The image of the nursing profession should be strengthened by Ms. Pham's case, not tainted!
I'm never quite sure why people think they deserve a medal for not fighting back (I know in this case the soldiers couldn't sue, and I am not referring to them specifically with that comment)? Just because one group of people decides not to fight against being used as an expendable resource, doesn't mean everyone else should do the same.I'm hoping Nurse Pham wins, and that her case sets a legal precedent for all of ua nurses out there- we are people, not replaceable numbers. We deserve safe working conditions. Nina's win could possibly represent a win for the profession as a whole.
You don't see soldiers suing the government because they CAN'T sue the government. You're not allowed to -- part of the paperwork you sign when you join.

Hopefully she will be able to ignore the personal smear campaign which will attempt to label her as all sort of awful things including "greedy".
