2019 Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program

Nurses New Nurse

Hi Everyone,

I didn't see a thread created for the 2019 Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program yet. This will be my 3rd year applying. I'm applying as a staff RN with a HPSA score of 17. Hopefully, they open the application cycle soon.

Nursing Instructor here waiting on continuation contract approval. Now I am nervous because I haven't heard anything and my status still shows under review. :(

Maybe they do it in sections? I’m a staff nurse. Try looking at your application and seeing if there’s a second signature on there.

Don’t fret! For the nurse corps they are just now making the 3rd year continuation contract approvals! Then they move on to the initial two year contract approvals. I got my email for the 2 year contract in August. Just make sure you check your email daily because they ask you to confirm interest and you only have 3 days to respond! Then you officially hear if you’ve received and award in September and payments start in October. Hopefully this helps someone rest a little easier!

Thank you so much! The wait is horrible.

I have a question for those who applied as nurse faculty. Did your Point of Contact provide information regarding Disadvantaged Background percentages for your school. I've seen confusing information about who provides this and where. Is it automatically included in the Employment Verification or did you submit separate documentation regarding the number of students who come from DABs?

NP, site score 19, DTI 60%.

I know my chances are zero, but the app basically was a ton of PDF uploads, so what did I have to lose. I am "under review."

Just want to throw this out there, but not meaning to upset anyone, because we are all deserving. But I find it odd that funding goes from DTI, top down, mainly. They can award more people if some lower DTIs are thrown in the mix. I realize those drowning in student loan debt need help desperately. But so many people are deserving. Just was thinking about how the most awards and people can be helped each year. I am surprised they don't have an essay or select at random.

I agree with that. I am wondering too how many people were able to get the SUD funding? And does that leave more opportunity for everyone else?

If you can only accept one award, then theoretically it benefits other psych and MH NPs. The LRP gives 50% to NPs, but 20 % of that is specifically for MH.

When I was reading it- I thought it was broken down to psych being one catering due to the increase fining they got for substance abuse

Isn’t that the big difference between NHSC and nurse corps? NHSC generally goes by site score whereas nurse corps takes DTI into greater account, right? If you applied for NHSC I’d imagine our chances are the same - HPSA 19, NP, DTI ~115%.

I guess so. My site isn't listed as NHSC. But I am going to try to get someone to do the paperwork for it for next year.

Nurse faculty here with a DTI of 115%. I've applied once in the past and had a credit check for that application in mid-May, and was obviously not awarded. This year, I decided to apply again. I don't expect that I'm a competitive applicant, but thought it was worth it to try. Was definitely feeling like it wasn't going to happen as my credit hadn't even been checked for this application. But I received word that I had an inquiry on July 10th from Credco. Thinking it has to be NHSC as I haven't applied for anything else this year. I'm hoping that this comparatively late check means that they think the funds will stretch far enough to award some faculty and MAYBE I could be one of them. Fingers crossed, as my husband is starting school soon, and this would help tremendously!!

From now on please state if you are a NHSC applicant or a Nurse Corps LRP applicant because it is becoming a little confusing. This way everyone will kind of know what each of us are speaking of. Initially this started out as a Nurse Corps thread but it has since progressed to different awards which makes it difficult to differentiate between them all. Just an idea so we are all clear on expectations.

Hi guys! I applied for the nurse corps LRP. I’m a staff RN with a dti of roughly 175%. I just got an email that I’m a finalist!!! The email came today and gave me till 7/25 to respond. So keep an eye out on all your emails!
