Hi!
Alright, so I heard from someone that while she was in nursing school she had to strip down, do physical exams and then be naked for the rest of the class! I'm not a nursing student yet, but this scared me. I'm not comfortable with my body and plus there are guys in these classes. I don't know whether to believe it or not. Can anyone tell me if you had to do this? I'm really freaked out.
Thanks!
Is it creepy if we enjoy spending lab time with mostly female fully clad college age students?I've definitely caught some of my female classmates ogling a shirtless male classmate in lab and I managed not to throw a fit.
What in my comment would make you say that I think spending time with your classmates in appropriate ways (ie everyone's dressed) is creepy?
That's a completely different scenario than a 39 year-old man who's currently an RN, speaking about wanting to see college age students disrobed in a nursing skills lab.
Huh??![]()
What does that mean?
That's what I'm trying to figure out. With the exception of the breast exams, people were talking about "stripping down" to sports bras/tank tops and shorts, for a LEARNING experience. And whether or not they had to do it in their program, or felt comfortable. It's not like anyone was saying they actually got naked or participated in inappropriate behavior.
I even checked out the other thread on this very subject (https://allnurses.com/lpn-lvn-corner/nursing-students-nudity-310533.html). And the same type of responses were given, to include a breast exam. So what we discussed is actually included in some of the nursing programs out there. In no way does the topic DEMEAN the profession of nursing.
Edited to include link.
I'm 5' 10" ; weigh 260 and i'm 53 yrs old. Where they at? I'll send those perverts to therapy!
All kidding aside. I was worried about nudity too. (Not my own). I took a C.N.A. course first. It helped me work that out. Follow your heart. For me when I was first told, "God sent you to me" I was healed!
So come on in. Your modesty will cause you to treat the sick and dying with respect.
Keep your soft heart, and don't suffer fools!
You push, and I'll pull.
A New Start
Had to do a sports bra and boyshorts. I was 19 and fit. It was still a challenge with a female partner and a pulled curtain. It did teach me about being considerate of my patients feelings. And it amazes me how someone who isn't even a nurse has so much advice on how we should be behaving. Please...
Did anyone go to Purdue in 1978? The physical assessment course at that time was something to behold!! Scary.
No. . .but I was in nursing school in 1975 (I love telling people that:nurse:). Many of the nursing school urban legends refer to my epoch, and I never heard about any class doing invasive procedures of any kind, or involving breasts or genitalia. I never heard an instructor refer to such a thing (and some of them were pretty old I can tell you!).
So, if you did, please share!

.....common sense, maturity, respect for the profession and obviously naiveté. By all means, strip and discuss.....
