I am moving to the Dallas/Fort Worth area next week and wanted to ask a question. Someone had indicated that North Texas has very few nursing opportunities. I just wanted to know if there was any truth to this person's statement. If it is true, then I am worried about my future. :uhoh21:

I am in North Texas and they need nurses so bad, that different hospitals come to our nursing school every week trying to recruite nurses. They even compete with each other over money and benefits. Just look at all the websites of the hospitals and you will see how many nurses they are hiring. I have heared that it is difficult to find a job as a LVN, but not as a RN.
I would not be discouraged. I am sure you will find something that you like.

I am in VN school right now and I live in Fort Worth. True, it might be easier for a RN grad to find a job in whatever field they want, but that does not mean you will have difficulty finding a job as an LVN. If you don't mind working LTC, they seem to need and pay LVN's the best around here. Many of my classmates already have jobs lined up when they graduate paying $18-20/hr. I plan on working in LTC until I bridge over to RN and I don't foresee any trouble at all finding a good job. Good Luck!

I also know that Hugley hospital hires LVN's. I could not find a website for them though.
Good luck!
Thanks so much to all of you! :)

I was in Dallas today. I looked at the paper and there was one ad in for a nurse, just one ad.
I am further north in TX than Dallas, and as I have stated here before, there are hardly any nursing jobs in my area. That's one reason I'm a traveler.

I'm surprised the paper only had one job listing. I work for a large group of hospitals in Dallas, and our internal website lists several dozen positions for RNs just at my location. Unfortunately, my hospital doesn't have a lot of openings for LVNs, except at their LTC facilities.

In the Career Builder in the Star-Telegram in Fort Worth, there are always tons of ads for nurses, usually at least 10 for LVNs alone.

TheCommuter,
Don't worry! You'll find lots of work in DFW.
A lot of the hospitals don't advertise in the papers, but there are still openings. DFW is in a serious nurse drought.
