I am moving to the Dallas/Fort Worth area next week and wanted to ask a question. Someone had indicated that North Texas has very few nursing opportunities. I just wanted to know if there was any truth to this person's statement. If it is true, then I am worried about my future. :uhoh21:
I am in FAR north Texas, 8 hrs north of Dallas. No jobs at all here, but plenty in Dallas. There has only been one ad for an RN in the classifieds in the last 2 weeks.
for an experienced oncology nurse, which I am not.
I am set to travel again.
Wow...8 hours...are you in the panhandle? Where's your next travel assignment?
I have been in Texas since November 25, 2005. Actually, I connected my computer yesterday.I scheduled my NCLEX-PN examination for December 28 in Hurst, TX and won't begin applying for jobs until I have an actual nursing license in my possession. Thanks to everyone for responding to my initial question.
Good luck! :)

I know that Plaza Medical Center in Fort Worth hires LVNs. I can't say that I exactly recommend them though. The pay is low and the work hard. And it is an HCA facility, for what that means to you. But you will get lots of first hand experience right away, with all the good and the bad involved in that.
Good luck with your exam and your job search.

I definately DO NOT recommend Plaza Medical Center - PM me for private details.

Working at an HCA in Texas has been the worst experience of my career.
HCA facilities are notorious for poor care and being nurse-hostile.
The HCA company is owned by the family of Senate Majority Leader, Bill Frist, MD. He has stated that he plans to run for president in 2008 ®.
I'm afraid of what will become of our already screwed up health "care" system and terrible working conditions for nurses if he becomes president. I think things will get much worse for nurses.
