Why are others nurses rude to agency nurses?
No one really should know that you are an agency nurse unless you tell them. The company should not even reveal this information. Maybe you need to get with another agency. The best agencies work through confidentiality. No one needs to know this information.

Are new grads hired for agency work?
Yes, new grads are hired by agencies. There should be some type of clinical experience and licenses for the ststes that they are interested in working for. The clinical experience will assist with the new grads gaining employment but it will not assist them with getting the salary desired. The most a new grad will be able to get is the state they are intersted in working for and the hours they want to work. They would definitely have to have their visa's. The good agencies will hire them.

Agency Nurse Etiquette
Agency Nurses are the nurses who get what they want. Some work 15 weeks and then take off for 6 months go to another ageny they have and work another temporary assignment, then go and work for a compny full time permanent for a few years. It is all left up to the nurse. As far as the contract is concerned a good agencies has a nurse placed then the contract is over, meaning there should be no ties to a contract even after the nurse has been placed. You have to ensure that you ask those kinds of questions. Will the nurse be bound to the contract after placement. This will give the nurse the freedom they desire. All agencies do not allow this freedom. The good ones do. Their sole responsibility is to give the nurse what he or she wants.

Agency Nurse Etiquette
Actually no and with most you are able to tell them up front that you will be working with other companies. The reason is that with an agency they are trying to give all their clients what they want. By this it means that they will allow you the freedom to choose where you want to work, the salary you would like to make based on your experience, the hours, the days whether temporary or full time permanent or travel all that is necessary for you to be pleased with the job. Agencies are more geared towards giving you what you want as opposed to you just getting what they are willing to give. No, a good agency is not concerned with whether or not you are working with others for a position as a matter of fact they would prefer that you state this up front.

Agency
Yes but you will need to figure out the career path that you are interested in. For one you need to know whether you want permanent employment, temporary employment, or travel. You will also need to know what state you are interested in working in and you will definitely need to be licensed with a visa if you are foriegn in the state that you want to work in. After you get all this information together then you can decide. Most agencies are geared to states as opposed to a certain city but they will try and assist you if you are interested in a certain city as well. After all this is done then you can pick from an agency in that area or one that works all over the country. It also may take up to 2 weeks for them to zero in on a position in the needed area. Then post what general area you are in.

Prison nursing--is this normal?
You need to do just as the others have stated and get out as soon as possbile. You do not need the litigation hassles they are about to endure is correct.

Colleague Abuse
You know this entire topic becomes so tricky because for the most part I really believe like you said that a lot of these individuals are good people they just have problems at home. As with the women of Wisteria Lane there are those whose home lives have such secrets that will make some quiver. Truthfully, women want it all, the nice home and the white picket fence, the excellent understanding submissive husband, the job making good money, along with two + children. This would be a load to heavy for even the most organized person. I agree that no one should allow anyone to walk all over them but the fact is no one can stop a murderer, or killer, or manipulator. You do not know who you are going up against now a days so the talk about I would not put up with is pure fluff as far as I am concerned. Here from experience I ahve had to care for murderers and killers in the hospital who were shot and they were conscious I would have fought if it were necessary but for the most part all I could do is get my job doneeven while being (dogged out) so to speak by the individual. Please that is not even real. I will not be bothered!!! In ER you will be bothered and like it, you will.

Colleague Abuse
You know as people a lot of times it is necessary to see abuse in more ways than one. If you are an RN who can not lift a patient but try and the patient falls this is abuse, also when you speak unkindly to fellow employees, this would be the origins of abuse, there are all types of abuse and it is necessary to figure out what type you are a part of so that you can get away from it as soon as possible. The reason is because abuse becomes like a chronic plague and it spreads. You are correct that the worst cases would be a company were the dysfunction is the norm. In my travels I found it absolutely terrible that a home health care facility (will not reveal the state) reported and arrested several nurses who had committed battery against several patients had to be employees as well. It was absolutely embarrassing (if you can imagine seeing ) the police hauling out a company full of nurses for assault and battery charges. So when you take a look at displacement of anger how many are truly concerned with where they displace their anger truly. This is one of those be true to yourself topics. Who would truly admit that they had a problem with their anger to a point where they would go and get help for kicking the dog because that is abuse.

can i handle ER nursing?
I believe that as you leave you will be able to focus on what you are best at or would like to do most. It is not necessary to have a speacialization right away is correct. School will be tough enough.

US nurses moving/moved to Canada
I heard something about 30 days would be the length of time then I heard it would be 2-3 months before you receive a license after applying for one. To be quite honest who knows but you can contact the Canadian Nurses Association and they will inform you of all that you need to know. Depending on where you move you may have to live there 30 days maybe that would be what they were referring to when they said it takes thirty days. Also I believe that it is the same if you were foreign moving to the US you must have employment first. Then they will issue a work permit. That is why it may be the same when going over to Canada. No I do not think they are less strict in the US I believe that there are those who just do not abide by regulations and do not get caught.

New SolutionsCanada Nursing agency.. for real?
Sorry but this sounds like a scam. Oh are you referring to Canadian dollars or US dollars. This sounds like an awful lot, never heard of them. Try Career Medical group and ask for Michigan rep N.S. That would be www.careermedicalgroup.com. Also you may want to try and get your money back by any means necessary.

Any Canucks "Disappointed" after moving to the US to practice?
I would have to agree that when ever there are those who recognize things going wrong they always want to run in stead of trying to make a difference. Once others in the industry realize and recognize how maticulous you are and that you refuse to do things the wrong way maybe they will move over to the other side. But, it could also be the hospital as well, there are still a few good ones out there. You just need a magnifying glass to find them.

Need to vent about not being able to VENT!!!
An even better thing would be if they put some punching bags in a room so that all those who are frustrated can take it all out on the punching bags. A break room with work out equipment would also suffice.

disturbing article in Wall Street Journal
I agree that when implementing a new system it is a must that all staff involved go through a dry run a few times in order to get the kinks out. This should be the normal practice of hospitals based upon the fact that care is of the utmost importance. Never been in such situations at any of my hospitals but it would be a scary one if I had.

Areas of Shortage?
My advice would be for you to become an RN.
